Well the night didn’t turn out to bad after a rough start. Ended up seeing 6 deer. They had me pinned in the stand I didn’t want to get down and blow them out. The spike horn finally chased the mature doe away and the 2 smaller deer stayed around while I climbed down. Didn’t want that doe see me getting down or she would be eyeing my spot every time. Be back at it in the morning.

Doe and fawn strolled by , she was young and the fawn was little . Free pass for them . Light is fading fast , has been an interesting evening.

This beer called my name for some reason. Sore. Up in the am to look for a buck. Gonna purposefully set up right in the middle of a 1500 acre gun hunting area where all these draws come together. Use the orange army.....

Nov 6th has always been a good day[IMG]

I helped the farmer's son get his bow ready this fall. He had never hunter with it. We got arrows and broadheads, along with a new release. Maxed out, it draws at 38 pounds. He is a good shot, but we discussed his max distance is 15 yards. Tonight he went out, sat in a chair with some brush around him, and a buck came out. The buck sees him, but walks closer, as to inspect him. The buck turned broadside and went to eat. He drew back and the deer turned to go. He shot, thought he missed, and watched the buck run 40 yards and fall over!

No camo, no scent control, 38 pound draw, and 2 blade cut on contact broadheads. Sometimes we make it so complicated. Yes, he certainly got lucky, but don't we also sometimes? I think back to the time when I started hunting. My only camo was a piece of camo cloth with a hole for my head to fit through. There was no such thing as "scent lok"...yet deer died. It goes back to the basics - hunt the wind, practice your shots, be patient, and make time to hunt. He used to say he like gun hunting more, but I think I brought him over to archery...forever.

Man it is killing me that I cant get in the woods. Glad that I can live vicariously through you all tho. I'm currently weighing options to take tuesday off and hunt when I get back. Monday is a holiday so I got that going for me. Anyway I'll be following along with you so and sos all weekend between beers, crying, beers, laughing, repeat. Till monday I'm on the bench. Till then. You know. KILL!

Ya'll gonna make me be the next killer? One more sunrise and sunset and the time I have been waiting for since last November is here.

Not very confident about Thursday, wind may muck things up, but I'll be there regardless.

Come Friday though, holy chit it's what we dream of. Nov. 8th and a calm crisp day with a high of 36. And it just keeps getting better. Cold is set to last at least through the 15th.

Last December I picked this week to hunt. Maybe my uncle is throwing me down some luck....

I suddenly realized that I had a picture of my buck from 2017.
I’m guessing he was a 2.5 yr old in the pic.
The rack stayed pretty much identical, just doubled in size

After the last couple days I realized ive been hunting by myself for a long time. 95% of my hunts since 1992 gave been by myself. I enjoy setting out at my pace without bothering or inconveniencing anyone...but these days its changing. Maybe its bc I turn 45 in the next month or so, but sometimes these hunts would go a lot better with a hunting partner. I wear my own rear end out. I tried picking up that canoe with the motor, battery, and all my stuff and dragging it 100 yds over deadfalls and such today. Struggled. That used to be childs play. Also its just fun to set out with a common goal and help one another.

Bring on deer camp 2020 some place like Ohio.....

    So question for everyone.

Windy days, would you sit the open or more in the woods during the rut? The spot I would sit in the woods would be in the valley of about 4-5 ridges.

Scent wicks worth it during winds? Seems they would dry up pretty fast but could carry for the couple hours they are good.

    What got me?

2 hours labor. $99 an hour.

The oil change alone cost $75.

    Never again
