Hunting with a crossbow unless you are legitimately handicapped during ARCHERY season is what we get for handing out participation trophies to everyone.
Okay....I'll play. You're the result of it actually...why you are not using a traditional long bow is the epitome of the hand out trophy mentality and why we have men playing sports with women. (see how dumb that sounds)
When I read these xbow threads, I have to laugh and wonder how many of the bashers have ever shot traditional? All the arguments you try to make to keep Xbow’s out of Archery seasons can and at one time was, made to keep compounds out of archery season as well. I have shot all three and there is a much bigger learning gap and difficulty range between trad and compound than there is between compound and Xbow. As others have repeatedly already said, a compound bow just isn’t that difficult to master. And there is just as many idiots irresponsibly shooting compounds beyond their effective range, poor shot placement decisions, inexperienced tracking skills, etc. as there is with hunters using an Xbow. I only hunt with compound because I am too lazy to become proficient or not talented enough to effectively shoot trad and I also want to increase my effective range because I want more shot opportunities.Yes, I am that selfish and self centered. I have never hunted with xbow because I enjoy compound, but you guys have about pushed me to do it just because I can.....and to piss a few of you off....lol Get over yourself and your pimped up compound....enjoy the outdoors and your way of hunting and let others do the same.

at the end of the day, none of this means a hill of beans... nobody truly gives a rats ass who hunts with what, its all in good fun..
This is what I’ve wanted for a while now. Can’t use it unless it’s rifle season or I’m shooting non game animals like coyotes or hog. But come on! Big $$$ though. Think I’d have to budget myself out at $1500. $2500 is a little much... But at the range it would be a fun toy. And who wouldn’t enjoy coyote hunting with one? On the bright side, I think they come ready to hunt out of the box. I think they might come with a few arrows (or bolts?) out of the box too. So just add broadheads!

Archery season is a short range season and a low percentage harvest season. Adding a crossbow to it increases the harvest rate. Longer effective range and not having to draw are huge. Same thing is happening with muzzleloader seasons, they went from a 100 yard weapon to a 250+ yard weapon. Same thing is happening in any weapons seasons. Custom barrels, scopes, rangefinders, ballistic apps have dramatically increased the effective range. Those guys are shooting them from the next county out here in the West. If you think most folks aren't going to use the most convenient thing allowed to them, well, I've got some ocean front property to offer to you. It all comes down to the F&G department and what they allow. My question to you is do you think they are allowing it because their data says the animal numbers can support it, or is it because some rich folks with influence raised a huge fuss and they caved to them? I can tell you what the answer is here in Idaho.
