Haven't been out much since early season. Picked up another lease with a buddy about 2 hours away. It 130 acres of 3-4 year old selective cut. Its thick but Like the looks of it.

Got a new place to hunt that is just to the east of the property that is not hunted and is most likely the core range for DDT. I've not had a single sighting of him on my creek bottom property so this new place is probably as good or better - and like most places around here, it's loaded with doe.

No luck on finding the buck. I think he will live. As for raining day filming...I take a tree umbrella usually. I also bought a thing off of camo Fire called a spot slicker. Think it might be made for scopes or spotting scopes but it works on my camera well...

I cannot film with it on. Ideally it would be good to have a camera rain cover over it so I could film...but those are expensive. And they usually make them for bigger pro cameras. My camera is the mod level kind.

You might be able to just cut a couple of holes in the cheap spotting scope cover - one for the lens and one for the viewfinder. You might also need to put the viewfinder inside a sandwich bag before sticking it through the hole or slot that you make for the viewfinder.

I’m waiting patiently for the right conditions to push into the spot my camera is on the public land. Ideally we would have a stiff north wind all day that dies down in the evening to help me get back there and cover up any noise I make. I expect bucks to bedding close to where I’m setting up and I don’t trust getting back in there and set up in the dark. Hopefully I can get back there this week and leave my setup if nothing happens I think it could be a great morning spot. This weekend I’m headed back to the private Saturday night and staying the night, might have my first morning hunt too Sunday. Have some worn to do with the property owner mid day Sunday.

I’m headed back to my buddies property in the morning. There’s at least 4 deer pushing 145 inches that have been at the stand every night. I’m hoping the cooler temps tonight make them show up at the scrape in the morning.

Ended up seeing 5 bucks and 4 doe this morning. One of the bucks was pushing 130 inches and at 10 yards to boot. He's only 3 though so on that property he got the pass.

I’m really hoping the weather app is accurate, if so Thursday is my day. Won’t have the high wind I wanted but the direction looks perfect and a cold front moving in. I’ll head in super early and take my time. All or nothing move but I have been looking forward to trying this spot since January. Buck only getting one out would be hell lol

    Frustrating night.

Started off with a flock of Guineas roaming around my stand and making a terrible racket. I finally had to climb down and chase them away.

Then had two older doe fawns at 10 yards for 30 minutes. I was tempted several times!

When they finally left I sat down to rest the legs a bit ... just then three nice does came in on my right. I tried to slowly get up so I could turn and shoot that direction.

As I was getting up, the biggest one was looping around between 10 and 30 yards. Anywhere out to 20 yards would have been an easy shot, but by the time I got turned around she was out between 30 and 50 yards and there were too many tree branches in the way.

Taught me to not sit down once the action starts!

That's tough but at least you're seeing deer. Feels like you're going to knock one down soon!

I pretty much stand the entire time I'm in a tree stand. Feel like if I sit down I'll miss something lol

Didn’t see anything, the area has definitely picked up the last few weeks though. I think it will only get better. I’ll stay out a couple weeks and next time head in early for a all day sit. Not sure I’m in the perfect tree but options are limited IMG_0233.JPG IMG_0235.JPG
