hi I've been bow hunting for a a couple years now when I first started I bought a climbing treestand. I mostly hunt public land and don't like leaving a treestand out during the season. It's worked ok but some areas I can't use a climber because of the shape of the tree. Can I buy climbing sticks and use my climbing treestand like a hangon.
I hunted out of a buddies stand that he used sticks with a climber. Kinda nasty to crawl in and out of. I wouldn’t recommend it Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I use an old API with an open front as a lock on. I strap it in with ratchet straps to keep it secure. I only use it in one tree since there is a branch I can use to maneuver into the stand, other than that, it would not be a great idea to do. It can be a pain in the butt getting around the armrests.
I have done this with a old loggy climber. Just set it like a hang on and I left it for a preset. Works the same, just have to add extra straps so it doesn't drop or kick out when you go to step on it from your sticks.
This is a good time to look for used hang on stands. Just saw a CL ad the other day for 3 stands and 5 sticks for $100. May need a little paint and new straps but price is right. This is in Iowa.
That is getting dangerous since id the climber moves you could be on the way to a bad fall, go with a hang on and some sticks. Shawn Jennings ProGold Easton FMJ 339 grains NAP Spitfire DoubleCross 100 grains 2017 Team 3 Shed Hunting 2017 Team 6 Turkey Hunting 2017 Team 5 Deer Hunting
I have done this. I got the idea from a video of Hunter Specialtie's Tom Miranda. I put on my own twist and discarded the top section and used a folding stool with part of the leg removed as a folding seat strapped to the tree. Worked fine as long as you ratchet the bottom to the tree and are careful mounting and dismounting.
I wouldn’t recommend it, but if you do definitely use a lifeline or safety strap and be attached before stepping on.
Sure you can! I would use a rope & harness ( as you should always use when climbing regardless) from ground to top! Could be a little noisy attaching a climber once ya get to height tho! Then climbing in will be mehhh but you should be able! I would get a light weight hang on tho! Safer, easier and most likely quicker and quieter!
Bad idea. Climbing stands are designed to have consistent weight holding them in place. Climbing in and out of one while it's up a tree is an accident waiting to happen. Get a lock on
