as long as i have deer near me first thing in the stand i'm good but after sitting for an hour give or take a few minutes i pick up the damn phone. i will try and make an asserted effort not to play on the phone........................................... the story will open on Oct 07
Technology is rotting us all. I remember having to wait until the night came to tell anyone about my hunts. or lunch time. Never gave it a thought to text or go live....it wasn't an option! ahh..I do long for those sometimes...

Besides the phone as mentioned, I have days where Im too easily flustered. I run off and forget stuff I may need. I rush into the stand and dont keep an eye out on my surroundings. I make too much noise setting up. It's like watching a grown adult trip over their own feet. Just silly mistakes some days.
Phone by far. But it helps me sit for longer, so that's good right? Also hunting the same spot over and over. So far this season I've not done that, and I'll look to continue mixing it up.
Waiting, and passing bucks that I would not judge others for killing because of the GD trail cam pics of big ones. I've eaten tags for 3 years because of 2 bucks.
Father, forgive me for I have sinned. My sins are not scouting before deer season, not practicing enough with my bow, sticking to easy places to hunt, not hunting enough, being impatient and not hunting all day. What is my penance?
In all reality, it's not for survival. It's not our careers. It's not even an issue in the grand scheme of things. Most Americans don't hunt and could give two cents about the deer herd or anything in wildlife for that matter..So I say just enjoy it for what it is...The day I killed my P&Y buck in my avatar I was actually there to kill a doe on a December hunt...low and behold he came in at 15 yds at 4 pm and it was 75 degrees ....so when it's your time it's your time...even you can't mess it up
I have three kids all under age 8. I love my boys but it definitely limits my time hunting alone. Although, I may be getting more hunting time overall by taking them this year. A friend gave me permission on his family farm and told me the boys are more than welcome to come help thin out the does. Saturday I picked up a youth model .243 T/C Venture for them. I have been taking my older two with a crossbow the last couple of years. We have seen deer but never quite close enough for archery equipment. I am hoping with the rifle, my older two will get their first deer this year. I have also had a problem with not having enough spots in the past. This year I have effectively scouted three different public pieces in addition to the private land piece and I am participating in an urban hunt. Hopefully, I have put myself in the position of having more options than opportunites.
I'm lazy. I don't shoot my bow nearly as much as I should once the season starts. I overthink everything to the point where I won't hang a stand because I feel like I can find something better, when I don't find the right tree I will just pack it up and not hunt sometimes. When I do get a stand hung I over hunt the **** out of it.
Eating tag soup for 9 months (I say that but you're probably one of those guys that wakes up 3 hours late, walks 50 yards from your parked truck, plops down and shoots a booner at 1030.)
I would say normally lack of scouting. But this summer I did more scouting on public land than ever before and have a few spots I hope will be good picked out. Other than that I'm sure I have a ton of weaknesses. So many in fact I'm not even sure what my strengths are.
Got lots but, my biggest may be my disire to take those that have not/ limited experience hunting. I LOVE doing it but am starting to regret it Abit. People now days don't understand/ under appreciate what it takes. I'm thinking it may be better to become a grouchy old ass.?
I check my phone constantly looking at the time just waiting for sunset like it’s going to make any difference what time it is if I’m in the treestand anyways haha.. oh but this year I have been setting an alarm on a light vibrate for when it’s time to leave the stand and it seems to help me keep my phone in my pocket and my head in the game.
I can’t believe the number of folks here who are glued to their phones and social media when they’re hunting. Glad to see all the honesty though. My phone is never a problem for me when I’m out hunting, fishing, or riding! Guess I’m lucky! I too like to take out folks who do not hunt frequently if ever. It can be fun. Depending on the person you take. Some appreciate it and make it fun. Others simply wasted your time by saying they wanted to go. I had one of the latter two weeks ago. Wasn’t fun for anyone. Although I typically enjoy hunting with a friend.
