so my 14 year old boy has a new mission hammer. He’s very deadly with it out to 15 yds. Ground and tree stand. He’s pulling 35 lbs and 23” draw. His arrows weigh 325 gr. He’s shooting 100gr magnus two blade coc stingers. Va doesn’t have draw weight limit. I have been told as long as his shots stay under 15 yds he should be more good to hunt deer. What y’all think?
I think he’ll be fine inside 20-25ish yards. Especially if he manages to not hit the shoulder or any heavy structure. Y’all would be hunting white tail there right? They’re not huge animals and the arrow just needs to make it to the boiler room, which it should do more than fine here IMO. What kind of velocities are you getting? Low 200’s?
To me it sounds too low, but I don't know much about KE and all that. For states that do have draw limits what are they on average?
Seems most states are 35-40 lbs minimum. Out of 63 whitetail bow kills I have all but two were with 70+ lbs draw with 2 being 60lbs draw.. I had plenty of ke and momentum .. just not sure on 35 lbs
he should be ok at 20 maybe 25 long as he doesn't hit shoulder. Same could be said for people shooting 50# and big mechs.
It'd probably be best to stay within 15 yards. My first two deer were taken with a 38 pound draw weight if I recall correctly. But I had a 26 or 27" draw length. Both were pass throughs on deer at 12 and 15 yards respectively.
Not to spund bad but 14 years old Why only 35 pounds ?? im just wondering if its a medical condition i understand but that would be a hard one BUT possible to do but you'd need to be in the tree stand or some kinda Elevation and have a Heavy broudhrad make shore he can hit the lungs or heart no shoulder bone at 20 yards..my 14 year old cousin is pulling a 60lbs Matthews and i been teaching all i know hes hitting 4 inch grops at 40 yards its all about practice and most importantly Working out I recommend letting your kid use a Recurve bow There Perfect for practice and working out your bow skills at any age and with a Recurve your kid should be Able to pull a good Draw weight soon Rebel
Suggesting that 35 pounds isnt good draw weight for a 14 year old kid is ridiculous, the kids right were he should be. Keep up the good work with him and post up a picture of his first deer.
I shot my first buck with a recurve pulling 38lbs at 28". I've always been a firm believer of placement over pass through or whatever broadhead. I would say give the deer a little more time to expire more than anything and he should be fine.
Its possible it can be done but keep in mind 60 feet is the max if your gona shoot a white tail Deer yea its possible but remember at 120fps You want to Have Energy A Punch with that arrow so id let him shoot on a elevated service so the arrows droping speed can go a little faster I really hope your son gets him a nice buck but remember at 35 pounds youll need a deer close If you are going to shoot a Pet next to a feader that will work most people do that unfortunately ..if you want to raise him as a hunter Remember to let him practice Side shots and shooting from deffrent angles because in the woods the shot will come from anywhere but i do hope the kid can get one also id let him Shoot some small game and shoot some balloons let him get into it the fun way and get that boy Recurve sometime they are really fun and easy and will help him out on his Archery skills Good luck and have fun Rebel
What would i know i only hunt Every day and im in the woods Now .. worked for Sa Sports own 5 compounds and 5 4 crosbows and only hold 4 gold Trophies and only been Bowhunting and shooting since i was 15 and i live in the mountains and served the country as a Army Sniper and hunt Litraly 4 times a week in the woods Yup im a idiot and a Rookie but I can Hit Chipmunk at 35 yards easy With my recurve What about you my Good Friend?
