So... I have a cabin in SE Ohio that’s totally off-grid, but we do enjoy a few luxuries (inverter genny for power). My current project is finding a way to screen-mirror Netflix, YouTube, etc. from my iPhone XR to my TCL smart TV. I usually have 3 bars of LTE signal to work with (which allows me to stream quite smoothly on my phone), but connecting any of this to WiFi is simply not an option. I can turn on my phone’s “unlimited hot spot” function and it works perfectly in testing, but I’ve heard that it will only last so long before they throttle my speed to a crappy (possibly unwatchable?) level. My initial thoughts are to buy a lightning-to-HDMI cord or an Apple TV “box”, but I have no experience with either and have read a lot of split reviews on both. I have never had Verizon (assuming you have unlimited data) noticeably throttle me. When I'm at deer camp I run my Roku TV through the 4g on my Verizon phone or hot spot and never have an issue so long as there is a decent signal.
Hmm.. Maybe I got bad information. I have Verizon “Go Unlimited” and a strong enough LTE signal to easily stream... Have you done this for extended periods of time? I usually spend 3-4 weeks at my cabin during the season and would like the capability to stream upwards of 3-4 hours per night... especially with CFB season in full swing during the rut. I went to Walmart and bought the Lightning to HDMI adapter and it works great. We use it on my tailgate with the Generator between hunts and at the campground for movie night. I was using the Apple tv but it is not as clear and buffers a little.

This is the idea that seemed easiest and cheapest, but I read a ton of reviews that said a recent (June or July maybe) update to iOS knocked out the capability of the cord to operate. Prior to that, almost all 5 star reviews. Have you used yours lately? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I just recently bought and returned my apple TV. I mainly bought it to stream NFL games because I cut the cord from my cable provider. Through verizon, the NFL app is free and you can stream the games for free. I figured it would be easy to use apple tv to screen share from my phone. When I set everything up, I was able to hear the audio but got no picture. Through a quick google search, I found a Reddit thread that was discussing how Verizon and Apple recently updated the screen sharing to exclude the NFL games. Everything else seemed to work ok for me screen sharing wise, but in the end the Apple Tv ended up being a very expensive Roku. If I were you, I would either get that cord or buy a Roku. We use a 20 dollar Roku at our camp at the lake. Turn on the hotspot, hook it up and off we go. We do have verizon unlimited data, not sure the specifics on the plan but I do not know that we have ever experienced a reduction in speed and I would say over the month we probably get close to 15-16 hours of streaming..
Right on. The TV has Roku built in. I’m guessing we’ll be out there for 3-4 weeks in November... We’ll probably burn through 15 hours in the first week, especially when it’s getting dark at 5:30-ish. The plan is ride the hot spot as far as it will take us, then switch over to a lightning-to-HDMI cord. If I buy it at Walmart, I’ll have 90 days to return it, so that will negate the risk if it doesn’t perform up to expectation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Totally feel ya, bro.. but we use the cabin constantly, year round and get way more than our fair share of adventure & solitude.
