Made many mistakes over the years food plotting but finally dialing it in.
Mostly problems with brassicas. Too early/ late, not enough fertilizer ect.
Went bit beyond the norm this year and kept the plots DEAD with Roundup untill go time.
Added perhaps a bit more fertilizer than needed.
Over the last few years, decided July 25 was optimal time too plant brassicas here in MN.
Of course timing is dependant on ma nature.
We got great rains at the right time. Sunny hot days.
Here's a few pics. I did not cherry pick. Walked into a plot and pulled the first 3 varatiy that I could reach.
Purple top, radish and giant rape.
One of my best plots ever.

I believe you're right. Around the third week of July seems to be the time for brassicas where I am in Wisconsin. I was late this year and planted them on 8-7 19. They are not where I was hoping they would be but they are trying!

Same here Graig.. I'm happy with the grain plots and the last 2 WW is great on on 100 yrd section. Bird seed experiment not so much. 2 of first bigger ones are light but growing well. So I stopped and picked up 50#'s of WR. Wheat was out of stock, so before next rain I walk the rye over a few areas. Hens and pults were busy thinning the sprouts as I drove by today...
    Buck things are looking great!

    Don't fret Greg.
I had one small spot I planted about August 5 and they are really coming on strong now with this hot sunny weather.
Old, your grains, broadcast of tilled in?

Well, looks like a killing frost here soon so I imagine things will be done growing.
Stopped be a plot today( the only one I can drive to) and picked the first turnip and 2 radishes I could reach.
Gonna be a lot of forage in this 3/4 acre field:biggrin: IMG_20191004_150026.jpg
