So someone hung a trail camera 5 yards from my stand. I’ve had gear stolen, but never given to me. Haha I did leave the camera. Has anyone had this happen? What was the outcome?

If private take it and leave a note with your contact info and tell them come get it and that you plan to press charges.

If public then don't touch it, it's not your land

Not my land. The land is used by anyone who asks so there may be a bunch of people hunting. I’ve had my stand in the location for about 4 years now and have never seen another hunter.

I would have taken it off the tree and laid it at the base of the tree. I would place a note with it saying private property keep out. Trespassers will be prosecuted. Place one of your cameras 20ft high facing this spot.

Then, it's for all intensive purposes public and if I were you I would move my stand

I would definitely not recommend this. They may just say you took my camera I will take your stand and he has your contact information. What's more of value?

    Do great minds think alike?

First thing that popped into my mind was to screw with the guy!

Show up in some funny outfits and do some hilarious crap in front of it!

This is someone that uses your stand when your not there. So don't make it easy. I unscrew my foot platform brackets then fold it straight up and zip tie it to the rung . Carry a couple of pins with you and use the pins to secure the foot platform. Or concrete 4x4 footings, reset your stand a bit higher and put your legs in the footings. Then you can tip the bottoms out allowing to pull your bottom ladder section off. Take it with you or chain it to a hiding spot away from stand.
Or if his cam isn't locked ,do nothing other than check his card and find the best time to hunt your stand before he does.

go find a set of elk or moose antlers sneak up behind camera and then just get a picture of elk or moose antlers/mount.

depending on where you live could be pretty funny

I'm going full chewbacca outfit in this situation. Or I am calling my friends to dress up like a bunch of the hillbillies from Deliverance. Let that fool check that card and see how fast that camera gets taken down by its rightful owner. Maybe play a little dueling banjos on video mode..

First, check the card. Then, replace it with your own card and pre loaded pics of sasquatch.
