It seems like a .300 spine would be on the stiff side, but I've seen stranger things before. If this is the exact setup you had at 70lbs, I would say that is why you noticed your groups getting worse at 60lbs. I would consider switching to a lighter gpi arrow and adding that weight up front and go with a .350 spine depending upon arrow length. This is what I would personally do myself, as it is what I use.
have you shot through paper with this? 300spine at 60 lbs seems a little stiff to me, I am not an arrow expert either though!
I run about 10-15 cameras and try to let them sit for 3-6 weeks before checking them depending on how easy the access is!
I have not, the general consensus seems to be to go back to 70lbs or a different arrow, since I have a butt load of arrows, the bow is going back to 70lbs. I'm glad I asked, I just assumed I lost my ability to stack arrows...at least now I can try and blame my equipment. Edit: I've made the decision to go back to using the .340 arrow, those were the most consistent, that's what I need to go back to. It's just money, right?
I would shoot them both through paper and see how they are hitting, just because it seems a little stiff to us doesn't mean it wont perform well for you!
If you have plenty of those arrows, strip the fletching off one and see how a bare shaft flies at 20yds. I'm guessing it will be stiff, but you never know. You can also go with a heavier insert (cheaper than arrows) to weaken the spine as well. I would want to get tuned properly before season gets underway.
Running 3-4 cameras currently check them every week in a cycle so means I only check each camera every 4 weeks. Seems to work pretty well for me Now currently only running 3 cameras cause my home property is only 7 acres. But it butts up to 100 acre woods can’t get permission and two open fields Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just checked a cam. Big 8 my daughter missed is back and even bigger than last year. This is the 3rd year in a row I’ve had him on cam, so I’m assuming he’s 5.5. A nice 10 pt showed up too. I think he was a nice 8 last year. Guessing him at 4.5. These are huge deer for my area. I can’t wait to check some other cams this weekend Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
well i am not sure if anyone else saw but today is @Justin 's birthday! Happy birthday brother, hope it was a good one!
Random question for you guys what what local archery shops do you guys go to? I work in the industry and talk with a lot of the shop owners weekly!
I was told this is normal by the string builder, but I’m not a fan. I used known builder on this site and had them built/installed last year and they are already wearing out when it rolls into the cam. Bow shop (local) says bow is in tune and ready to go except the way the string looks. He said since they are not Mathews strings he won’t comment on them.
I use a local shop, guy does his work barefoot, that’s gotta mean something. They’ve always treated me right and usually get my bow done fairly quickly.
What’s the name of the shop?? The wear on your bow looks fairly normal, just some serving separation which is annoying, you can rub the smooth, circular part of a screwdriver over the separated area and it will help with the issue, but it will come back, I’ve also had guys use serving or d loop to wrap tightly around the serving and pull it back into place. As long as the separation isn’t more than 1/16 gaps you will be just fine! Again it will keep happening until you get new strings or reserve the ends Adam Matthews Traverse 29/70# CBE Tek Hybrid Hamskea Hunter pro Dead center dead level stabilizer kit 8-6 Carbon express maxima red SD badlands 350 spine -460gr including bh 100g Slick Trick Viper trick
Happy Birthday Justin! I buy my bow and firearms mainly from Dave's Sporting Goods in Pittsfield, MA. One of their owners, Paul, is the only guy locally I will trust with my bow setup. He also invests a tremendous amount of time with kids helping them get set up properly and works with them a ton to learn to shoot. Most of my other gear (clothing, sights, etc.) I get online.
That is too weird.... I literally just got some arrows out at my desk to send to Paul!!! Adam Matthews Traverse 29/70# CBE Tek Hybrid Hamskea Hunter pro Dead center dead level stabilizer kit 8-6 Carbon express maxima red SD badlands 350 spine -460gr including bh 100g Slick Trick Viper trick
Good news, gave the limbs a full turn up and the bow is shooting harder and straighter. I kept hitting right 3-4” at 60 yards and tried to adjust without any change. Went to 20 yards and cranked the sight back and forth and I think I loosened something up. Did a walk back tune to 50 yards and got much better. I shot way too many arrows and started getting a little fatigue. Tomorrow, I’ll start at 50 and get this thing hitting dimes.
Hunting in Pittsburgh is great hunting if you can get access, mostly bow (some shotgun depending on area) and kill some studs! A know the guy who had the typical record for about 10? Years and he shot it in the city limits. Also, unlimited does tags and season starts mid sept til late Januaryish. Never closes.
