I've been doing fantastic. I'm loving the fully retired life but waiting for the Kentucky opener is killing me. I've had to pass the time bass fishing and stocking the freezer with fillets. It's tough being retired.
It'll go by faster than you want it to. I had to do some homework to figure out that we were on the same team back in 2016.
I actually retired before the season opened last year, but while I did get to hunt and managed to kill 5 deer it was a rough season. With putting the house on the market, the fast sale, moving to Kentucky temporarily with six dogs while my wife continued to work at St. Jude in Memphis and then moving with six dogs to our new place in Missouri - wasn't able to pull a single overnight trip all season. She knows that as soon as the season opens this year I'm as good as gone until bow season ends in Arkansas on 28 February.
2016 was a tough year for me. I actually didn't get a single deer with my bow that year. Marathon training made it difficult to hunt that year plus I just couldn't do anything right the entire season. I made up for it the next two years though.
