Hi! What are the best resources to learn to hunt and perfect skills? Magazines, books, websites (obviously this one), YouTube channels, etc. I have no one to teach me and we don’t have any instructors around either. My sons want to learn also (6&12). I have a bow on order for my 6 year old and my 12 will be sharing my new PSE Stinger X until we can order him one. My husband will be using my ancient beast of a Bear for awhile as well (see profile picture) but I don’t think he will get too into hunting so it will most likely be just me and my 12 yr old. I learned to shoot on the Bear about 15 years ago and am practicing with that until my new one gets here in a week. Thanks in advance!!
Welcome to the forum and the passion. The best way to learn is to make mistakes. But asking questions on here helps allot as well. There is tons of great ppl on here... Sota and I are on here too.
Welcome! Hope you and your son have fun. One regular show I watch on YouTube is The Hunting Public. They hunt public land almost always and travel to different areas in the mid-west. They also do a good job talking about what they look for in locations and how they determine areas where deer are likely go be and travel. From what I've seen on the show, they're really good guys. They have also recently been picked up on Amazon Prime video too. If you have questions, we have answers. Well usually anyway!

Welcome Angie! You have already got some great channels to watch. I also watch hunting videos like Bowhunt or Die, here on bowhunting.com and Midwest Whitetails, Whitetail Edge, Whitetail Habitat Solutions and Drury Outdoors. All of them have wisdom and are willing to share it. I use the videos for visual technicals aids to help me picture angles, times for hunts, do’s and don’ts, etc and not just entertainment. One thing you can do is learn everything you can about your weapon. There is allot that goes into a perfectly tuned bow. Research (or just ask on here) about setting your bow up. There is a few threads already if you look in archives. Once you take out the variable of the kill you can focus on getting a deer in front of you.
I would also suggest a youtube search for "proper compound bow form", lots of good videos will come up. Get yourself and your boys shooting with proper form before you have poor form habits that are tough to break. Also as suggested above, learn to tune a bow. Knowledge of how to paper tune, French or walk-back tune, and bare shaft tune will serve you well.

Usually we have answers. If not, we will make up something that sounds impressive. Good luck this hunting season. Good to have the youngster involved. Two of six grandkids have taken my hunter education course and the rest as they reach the necessary age.
That’s great. And awesome with the kids! My oldest can take it in a couple weeks. He’s really excited about it! I’m going through it now - I’m in my 30s but feel it’s still something everyone should do.
I have had people in their 70s take my class. Just make sure you score higher than your son or you will never hear the end of it.
