Just curious to see how many people use Ozone to treat their hunting clothing. I bought an ozone generator and a big tote and replicated the scent crusher tote for around 50$ last year. I have always just washed gear in scent free detergent and stored in a tote, by doing this and hunting the wind I haven’t been winded many times at all. Last year when I started using the Ozone I feel like I was alerting the deer, I wasn’t getting busted or blown out but they seemed real edgy. Might skip the ozone treatments this year and see how it plays out. Thought?
I've been using ozone on my clothing and gear for years. In fact, I rarely wash anything but my base layers during the season. Unless they get muddy or bloody, my insulating and outer layers pretty much just get ozone treated every week or so. I use a large Sterilite tub with a Scent Slammer unit inside and it works like a charm. I'll treat all of my clothing, boots, backpacks, harness, etc. You just need to watch out for anything with spandex in it as the ozone will deteriorate it in short order. This spring I threw my Scent Slammer unit in my gym bag to give my workout clothes a quick dry wash. I forgot about it and three hours later my gym shorts were more like a 3XL than a Large. As for the ozone scent alerting deer - I think it's all in your head.
I made a room with a generator and plastic draped for walls and all gear stays in there. You definitely still can get busted but let's be realistic you or I are not beating a bucks nose... We just want a few extra seconds and I think it works
But the guy at Ozonics said I’d be invisible.... I agree on getting a few more secs and I do believe ozone works. It’s proven on odors, just over thinking everything right before the start of the season.
Never used the tree mount. Can’t see how that would work I know some guys that swear by it tho, rather spend that money on beer
I wash my clothes in it.. I think its done wonders for me. I went with the same approach you did, ordering an ozone generator from amazon. So far so good and I especially like it for my out of state trips where I may not have access to a washer
That is the best part of it for me too, I take a portable closet that I bought on Amazon and set it up, helps dry out wet cloths and I ozone wash them in it.
No idea if it's true or not. But, have been told that some deer pick up on ozone because it's a "dead zone" with no scent at all and it's what causes them to become alert. Again, I have no personal experience, only have been told by a few people about it. Personally, I look at it as humans have been hunting animals for as long as we've been on this planet. If they can hunt successfully without ozone treatment, so can we. Same can be said about Fred Bear, his fedora and plaid shirt in comparison to camo.
I’ve been saying this for years. Fires burning and that smoke smell wafting through the country side since forever is probably not going to alarm deer (but I haven’t asked for their opinions, yet). I still crush my outer layer with ozone.
Not sure how pretreating hunting gear before hunting is going to startle deer or create a "dead zone" that would alert a deer. That is advertising BS.
I was responding to your post from a general standpoint of how an out of place, and not naturally occuring, ozone rich environment might make deer more alert. Am I saying ozone treated clothes, which are then transported to hunting site, would cause this? Most likely not. But, if someone is using an ozone generator in the field, it might. The way it was explained to me is that, more or less the only time a deer would most likely encounter a naturally occurring ozone rich zone is due to a thunderstorm. The reason they aren't too bothered by this is that it's all around them. However, due to an ozone generator creating an ozone rich pocket/zone in the woods, it's out of the ordinary and unnatural. Thus, due to a deer's heightened sense of smell, it may cause them to be a little more alert. I was told to think of it along the lines of us walking around, and then smelling natural gas. I wouldn't call it advertising BS. In fact, I'd say it's just the opposite and possibly a reason for not using an ozone generator in the woods. Whether any of this is true or not, difficult to tell. There's a lot of theories when it comes to hunting.
