Also spent all day yesterday working on one of the new leases. First stand to go up is on a fenceline that connects two big blocks of timber. The fenceline also sits at the top of a ride and seperates hayfield from pasture. Tremendous amount of deer activity along the fence. This spot sets up perfect to do
Some calling and pull bucks out of the timber.

Then I had to take down two old box blinds left on the farm by the previous tenants. That was an adventure, but got them moved without damaging them.

Then I put up a new blind for gun season. At the top of a long ridge in a hayfield (with clover seeded in front of the blind) directly next to primary bedding.

About 250 yards from the blind, I put a bow stand in the corner of the hayfield where two big fingers of timber connect. This edge is covered in black and pin oaks (scrapes galore). Deer bedding is less than 40 yards felm this set. Great transition spot. The Field is low here and deer aren’t visible from the main part of field. Lots of deer traffic under this tree.

Stand number 3 of the day is a deadly pinch point. 3 ridges with thick briars and brush meet at the bottom but there is a 25 yard gap between the end of the brush and the pasture fence. Every deer walking through has to walk through this gap. There is one big pin oak that I put the stand in. During the rut this stand won’t even be fair

Still have 6-8 more stands and 2 blinds to go on this farm, but it’s starting to take shape.

  9. How many stands and blinds do you put up for each farm/area you hunt?

Depends. I tend to have way more stand locations than I can hunt in a year. I am usually putting up my personal stands for a specific deer. I have a farm with only 1 stand on it...and I have a farm that has over 20. Just depends on what deer are there, who’s hunting there and when, etc

    No I don’t really “guide”

I have a few close friends that hunt with me when they get tags, and I share some leases with some other people. And then I do sublease a few farms as well.

  14. I guess it just seams like a crazy amount of work time and effort when you can only shoot one deer? I understand having a few different locations set up to help but wholy sucker.. that's commitment, actually hunting would seam like work after all that..?!

Checked a few more cams behind the house today. A Few prospects showing up now. Basically a whole new buck crop this year. The top 3 bucks last year all died.

Today I put up a new stand on one of the new farms. Set for a N-NE wind where the top of a big timbered ridge meets a pasture and a fenceline that cuts through the woods. Tons of old rubs all over the place here. I used another cedar conviently located to make a future mock scrape under. This will be a hot spot during the rut.

Nothing big on camera on this farm yet, but it doesn’t have any alfalfa or soybeans, which is where all the bucks are right now. Tons of does, acorns, and thick bedding ridges though. I am confident by Mid October the mature deer will start showing up.
