Have had a trail cam out deep on a lake property for almost 2 months. I put a mineral rock by it and Im go check it out in about a month. Excited to see if anything is on cam as Ive never hunted this area before so I need some intel. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
With all the hiking in and out you have to do, you should get a cell cam if the place you hunt has cell service. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
You can get the latest Stealth cam wireless for around $150. I've got one and it has done pretty well. Another option is a Spypoint link evo. They are closer to $200. What ever you get, if you decide to get one, make sure you buy an external battery with a solar charger because without that, the batteries will only last about 2 months. The solar charger and battery is about $50 but in the long run it will save alot of money. As far as reception, if your phone gets reception in an area, the camera will as well. Curious on something with these cellular cameras. Say you set it up with good signal etc. You get a couple sporadic pictures and its working fine. Then you do not get a picture for a period of time. Can you reply to a text the images are sent from with a code or command to force a picture? Rather than having to drive all the way to it to make sure it didn't lose signal or get stolen.
I think with the latest Stealth cam you can send it a command to take a picture. I'm pretty sure you can't do that with the others. As far as theft goes, I have my cams in lock boxes that lag bolt to the tree and are locked with a shrouded lock that can't be cut. Of course, a thief is a thief and if they want it bad enough I suppose they could find a way. But one thing, the camera always gives it's GPS coordinates so if they turn it on, you would be able to track it that way.
pastorjim, it is illegal to drive nails or use bolts to secure treestand or anything else in the Cherokee National Forest. Good that you can secure your cameras. Several years ago, our recreation minister had three treestands lifted from a private farm.
HELL YES!!!! got my Kansas Area 7/8 tags this weekend. going to be hunting family river bottoms. nothing but soybean, milo and alfalfa. LETS DO THIS!!!!!!
I have spent the last 4 months scouting 3,000 acres of public land that borders the house I bought last October. I’m ready to try to kill my first public land deer. Looking forward it to as much as ever. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Present. So ready for seasons to open. Been grinding on a regulatory project for the past 5 months...way out of town. Ready to kill. Got a new string /cable set on order. Which makes me nervous, cause I'm shooting decent despite not getting much practice time... Season kicks off with OTC archery elk in CO...The (25hr one way) commute always sucks, though this year is setting up to be very interesting. Just myself and one other member (not on this board much anymore), but we're still debating the GMU to hunt. The late melting snow and heavy winter precip has the makings for some good growth in many western states. CO is followed by months of NC deer season on heavily pressured public lands. I have used last deer and spring turkey seasons to really find some interesting spots. I'm hoping to clear some shooting lanes here soon for some sets. God willing, I'm hoping to join many of you slackards in Oct around Columbus Day.
I am ready. New bow, sight, rest, broadheads. One food plot planted and another being planted the first week of July. Already started setting up stand sites and have a few good bucks on camera. September and October are for me. November I'll take out the kids to try and knock one down. September can't come soon enough. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Haven't stepped a foot on the property yet. I've got all the minerals/cams ready, but just haven't put in the time to get them up. I'm almost tempted to not set them up this year and just go in blind. I am ready to shoot some deer in the ass! Just kidding around. We are about to lung shot the biggest bucks of our lives this fall.
Yeah I don't get to be apart of the drawing but I speak for the Champs when I say.... Good buck, good luck
