Had a long conversation about this over the weekend. Interested to see everyone's thoughts.

The entire premise of most religions in Christianity is that Jesus died for all of our sins. Yet it is also taught that humans have an immortal soul. If such is the case, then we are all going to live eternally in one form or another anyway...right? If then our souls are immortal, Jesus would not have had to die in order for us to gain everlasting life (John 3:16). The scriptures indicate that without Jesus' sacrifice, we would not have "everlasting life"...so how does one explain the "everlastingness" of an immortal soul?

Hopefully when your day comes you will be able to ask Jesus himself.

Luke 16:20-31 tells the story of the rich man and Lazarus. Boils down there are two places we go and there is no crossing between them. Read it for yourself to get the full picture.
I agree with fix and his observation of Donald Duck. Mickey Mouse wears pants. And all those cartoon characters wear gloves.

After all is said and done by humans, not God, the only thing it boils down to me is faith. Do you believe in your God or not? I dont trust many words from a mans mouth about religion. They have no idea what is real or not. No mortal man does. No one parading around in $5000 religious costumes should be trusted. And building 10 million dollar mega churches....for what? Not to be trusted.

I was living in Hawaii at age 14 and was walking over a bridge when something just clicked. None of this makes sense without a God. I'm not religious but I know God exists from what I see. Not sure if that makes sense.

My honest thoughts, I look back at the example my Grandfather on my Mother's side set. He was in the Navy got out WW2 started he reenlisted in the Army, he wanted to go to Germany to fight the Nazis. He ended up being a tank commander in the Japanese theater. He only talked about light hearted parts of the war, no battle stories. Anyway as a youth I would spend the weekend at my Grandparents just me not my siblings, Sunday morning I was up and went to church and my Grandfather stayed home. When he turned 70 he started going to church and was active in the men's club. I asked him why he started going he simply said covering my bases. I figure when I turn 70 I am going to start going to church and smoking Marlboro red shorts, in the hard pack.

Actually that was an argument I used during the convo I had this weekend. Virtually all religions teach some form of afterlife or immortality of the soul. That theology actually predates Christ. So where did folks get the idea of an afterlife before Jesus came and died a sacrificial death?

    Yes
    It has

The Bible is open to interpretation. I’m not sure that’s how God I intended it to be though .
I believe all the answers are there in black and white .
We can not see it because we choose not to .
God gave man free will and choice .
Man has chose to interpret gods word to justify his actions . Thus the forming of different religions and faiths ,
We see this plainly in the Christian faith with . Although based on the same principle different denominations have formed to justify their own actions with with different rules and interpretation of gods word .
