Clover progression

I planted the Whitetail institute alpharack clover. This will be the third year of growth ( projected to be the strongest year ). Soiled tested at 6.4
I will be using Raptor for weed control and will post results weekly to help all those out there trying to see if it is worth spending the crazy money for clover control.

That's a good looking plot Fix. I've been waiting to cut mine bc of the red and arrowleaf clover flowering and I want it to reseed but it's up to my knee and going strong.

 

So, I found Imox which is only 300 a gallon. I have decide to try it this year in place of Raptor which is over 500. I made this thread to validate the use of Raptor but I have to try Imox at that savings.

 

I just planted a 200 yrd trail plot in clover, I did it in sections over the last week. This was done by raking the lime and seed in by hand in between rain. It is a long time plot that years ago a seed company asked permission to feature in their testimonials. I let it go pretty much 2 yrs ago due to a change in my boarder activity. Now I'm concentrating on deer movements in this area to steer them down the middle of our land. I have a few trees to cut and another 200 yards to prep and plant for fall seeding. There is a tiny 100 ft x 15ft clover planting just off the end of the trail thats just showing growth.

So hey Fix, have you ever heard of discing your clover for growth? My dad is a retired farmer and told me I should take my disc, straighten the gangs, set the depth at 2" and run it over the field a couple weeks after a good mowing. He said it would double its growth. That being said, my great grandpa grew clover for seed production and I wonder if this technique is variety dependent.

 

I've never heard that but it peaks my interest!

 

My dad suggested I do this around the first week of September or earlier in the spring. I will say my dad had a clover timothy mix that we used to bail and when I asked how he got that field so thick the disc technique was mentioned.

Here is my OP plots after 2 cuts and IMOX and 3 weeks of settle time.
I have to say Imox did just as great as Raptor (at half the price )
I wish I would have been able to do it earlier but the rain allowed weeds to take over hence the brown spots where there was little to no clover or chickory once Imox burned
