Is it safe to move on a treestand?

How much can we move on a treestand? I recently got a Summit Treestands Goliath SD Climbing treestand.

I am not sure how safe it is to move in the treestand. Since we need to scout and hunt on it, we have to spend long hours on it too.

Do you mean like stand up and turn around?

As long as you pick a straight tree with soft bark and calculate the correct amount of upward pitch of the stand at the bottom of the tree, it will be rock solid. Just like with your hang-ons, don't forget your life line.

 

This good advise and to add to that I’d suggest no more movement than this:

Anything less than that is fine

 

Do not move, pretend you are played egg in spoon.

The only place a male should be wearing a crop top is under shoulder pads.

 

It's not like you're doing back handsprings, you should be fine.

 

I can testify that you can (from that exact set up) stand, turn, crouch, pee, sleep and if need dictates even hunt.

 

There should be a video that came with your stand. You should watch that and then practice climbing during the summer months. Follow everything in the video and you will be fine.
-Always tie the bottom to the top while climbing
-Use the stationary strap to secure the top to the tree when set
- Keep your weight centered and not lean out to the left or right

 

the more time you spend in a tree, the more comfortable you will feel. At least that's my experience, but I've never had any fear of heights. I've heard that most accidents happen during the way up or down. I suggest practice going up and down (with all safety precautions every time), and spend time up there while you're at it.

 

Always strap to the tree, always tie the foot platform to the seat, never choose a slick tree to climb. This fella broke all those rules.

No, there wasn't anything funny about that! Dude got lucky though. I wonder where that arrow ended up, because he was at full draw.

 

No, not at all. If it was my video, it would be called "A Cautionary Tale about Climbers."

 

And if you look at what caused the fall, his arm bumped the tree while coming to full draw.

Also, always try to have a platform level to slightly up in the front not down like the video above.

Tie the top and bottom together with about 4' of rope incase the bottom slides/drops while you're seated.

After you get to how high you want, use a small ratchet strap to lock the top section to the tree.

ALWAYS use a safety harness !!!

 

If you got a climber Id say watch some videos on the product and practice using it. Find a tree in your backyard and go a few feet up into the tree, get comfortable in it.

 

Best way to figure it out is go up a tree about 3 ft and F around until you fall... you shouldn't get hurt and you will forever respect its limitations.
When used correctly and respected they are a huge asset in the woods.

 

Nothing funny about falling from at treestand. As a hunter education instructor, I get accident reports from the TWRA. In Tennessee, 2010-2014, there were 52 incidents- 50 were not wearing the full body harness. During the same time frame, there were five fatal incidents involving treestands. One was wearing a belt around his chest and was unable to relieve the pressure around his chest when the bottom part fell to the bottom of the tree. Fasten the two parts together!
A fellow instructor knows a fellow in PA who fell out of a treestand...the only time he didn't wear his full body harness. He broke his back plus suffered a stroke due to a traumatic head injury. He only has use of his left arm and is confined to a wheelchair for life.
