This year was fairly slow in my area with the water being so high. For the guys who just head out to the river to hunt "because that's what they've always done" with no real knowledge of duck movement it was pretty ruff going. For the others, there was a slim chance of getting permission to hunt the private property flooded timber that the ducks migrated to. Even in our hot spot on season opener where we have a "pass-shooting" setup between two ponds we had poor luck meaning the population was down in general (in our area).
Amen. Waterfouwler are a dedicated bunch. I never had the desire or money to invest so I was a puddle jumping fool. Shot many cruising back roads looking for roosting Ducks. Park and make a sneak.
Its hard i was into waterfowl hunting befor I started bow hunting. I just dont have alot of waterfowl spots were i can walk and wade in , no boat or farm fields to hunt. So i have to give the edge to bow hunting deer. Have done turkey the past 2 year and i like it. Thow im not obsessed with it like deer. Like late season squirrels if i got time to get out.
It goes elk, turkey. whitetails for me. There's something exciting about a 700 pound animal running in that either wants to hump you or fight you. Turkey hunting is great when the gettin's good, but mosquitoes... Deer are just plain cool to hunt and watch transition though the seasons but stand hunting can wear on a guy.
Elk are the Bomb! Ruined me for anything else but I still like it all except waterfowl. Only because I don't like to eat them.
Also whitetails for me, turkey is pretty exciting as well. But also, ya cant beat pond fishing for large mouths in the summer!! Sent from my SM-G950U1 using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Tough to name just one thing! I would say Ducks and then Deer with Walleye in the middle if you count fishing.
