Not long after I bought this house we started getting similar phantom smells, finally we were able to isolate it to one of the MBR closets. Climbed up in the attic and replaced the fixture. Smell went away.

Yep they checked all of that. Talked to the fiancé earlier tonight and the smell came back. This time like its coming from the vents. Landlord came down and the furnace wasnt pushing heat when it kicked in. The motor when out out and was just making the electrical smell while trying to run.
