so today, I began a 30 day foray into a meat-only diet...with a slight twist- The plan is for 5 days a week I 'm only going to eat meat that I've killed myself (currently all venison) including no vegetables with the following exceptions: I will eat 2-3 eggs daily from my buddy's chickens (not quite free-range only but closer than store bought) 2 days a week I will eat fish that while supposedly "wild caught" will be store bought (I can't ice fish; once spring rolls around that may change) I will allow myself up to 2 rye whiskies per night...altho I probably won't come close to averaging that much my boss is retiring and the party is going to be epic and I am sure I will eat both non-meat things and drink a lot of beer- I will fully disclose that when it happens (date is TBD) My wife is coming home over the weekend of the 16th and we are celebrating both Valentine's Day and my 42nd birthday...while we will be eating at a Brazilian steakhouse (meat only for me) I will probably be drinking wine and maybe a beer or 4 Other than that, NO BEER (this is the biggest sacrifice) I will also be doing Peloton workouts near daily, some weightlifting, and possibly some light running once the weather turns to spring.. Today's baseline: 6' 1" 220lbs blood pressure 132/89 (3 measurement average) "pre-hypertensive" didn't Peloton but I did do 30 pushups In all honesty I should be down at about 185-190lbs. I was in that range recently as 2015...I was as low as 210lbs right before my wife was deployed in September 2018. I've mostly been hovering around that blood pressure since I was like 28 yo but I have gotten my BP down to 125/75 (normal/high normal) on the regular somewhat recently- it can be down to that level when I'm living right. I've never been a fitness freak, but I am "at that age" when crap starts to happen, and my family history is not very good. I just know I can be better than what I am physically and since I am married to a woman 10 years younger than I am; I owe it to her to take best care of myself. Especially since she is likely going to kill me early anyway. I might as well tilt at that windmill. So this is mostly a vanity thread to see what I can accomplish in 30 days and maybe beyond, but if anyone wants to participate feel free. I've just been seeing/hearing a lot of info (mostly podcasts) about people doing this diet with really good results. I will post here at least every couple of days and will be honest when I cheat. So my goal is for me to only consume meat, water, coffee (with a touch of wild honey) and some cheat alcohol for the next 30 days. We'll see what happens after that. Wish me luck. Good luck! Don't over do it at first, but stick to it and you'll exceed your own expectations. Personally I think the key to any 'diet' comes down to calories burned > calories consumed. To this end, the reduction of carbs and fats + exercise puts you on the right trajectory. But diet + exercise is the winning combo. I tracked my calories in, and ate roughly paleo/primal, toward about a 400 caloric deficit /day. Which equals about 3-4lbs/mth from diet alone. I tracked my exercise, and just started with trying to get 10k steps, but then pushed harder (cardio & endurance, later added strength) and longer durations/distances. And started tracking caloric burn. Just getting the habit of exercise started (3-4wks) is helpful. Net, dropped about 60lbs in about 9 mths. And had kept most of the weight off for 3 yrs, till 3 months ago (injury after injury has keep me from exercising as I'd like) and I've tacked back on another 15lbs (temporarily). @PastorJim lost a good bit of weight and is a great encourage, so hopefully he'll come in.
shouldn't be too hard not to "over do it." I've been largely carb-free for over a month (sans some beer nights and 2-3 nights I had red mashed potatoes.) Cutting veggies will be tough as the potatoes as I actually really like most veggies.
Good luck Noodles. Gotta say I don't get the attraction with the whole carnivore diet though. I love fruits and vegetables and eat a sh#t ton of carbs. I also only weigh 178 pounds though, but honestly attribute that to intermittent fasting and not eating a lot of meat.

Good luck sir. I've seen way to many people that I thought were fat n outta shape live way longer than I would have thought and those that seemed super fit die early. Doctors " find" things wrong with everyone. I avoid em like the plaque.
Count calories and eat a balanced diet with exercise is the healthiest way. You wont get what you need from any fad type diet. Good luck.
I might join your plight shortly. Back in 2013, I think it was, I got into a weight kick and actually did well. Went from 225 to 195 in 4 months. Was using an app called My Fitness Pal to count my caloric intake and using treadmill with freeweight lifting to keep calories burned above intake. I changed the diet a bit, but mostly made sure burning calorise was higher than intake. Summer hit early and I abandoned it waiting for the cool down which never really happened. I've had HBP since my early 20's, never seen a Dr. regularly until I was insured with my current job. I need some motivation and maybe a friendly competition will suffice.

Good luck buddy. Personally, I think I'm right where I need to be. Currently I'm 4'9" and 440 pounds. Blood pressure is still under 200 so good there. I am going to stop drinking beer....at least until tomorrow, the fridge is fresh out tonight. Guess I'll have to finish off the pumpkin pecan pie with ice tea tonight...oh well.

Like I said this is mostly for my curiosity but if anyone wants in have at it. I could use the motivation. I also went from 215 to 185 in 4 months in '13 as I went through my divorce and trained for Idaho elk, so I know it can be done. I ran and lifted like an animal and did kind of a South Beach diet that time but I am curious about the carnivore thing- who knows, I may end up back on something like that after my initial 30 days of meat only. Secondly, as a general rule I also do not go to doctors. I do not trust them, and when I did go to them I found far more often than not I know what's going on more than they do. GPs anyway. Any GP I've ever gone to has barely listened to me, been wrong in their diagnoses, and then ultimately I've had to go to a specialist anyway. Lastly, up to 90 push ups today. Banged out 2 more sets of 30....and had a whiskey.
I wouldn't be able to do this diet. I love fruits, veggies, and carbs way too much. I am currently working out and am eating a lot cleaner trying to drop a few lbs before a trip to Punta Cana in April. I'm 5'8" and am 173. I will use your 30 day plan as motivation for my routine! I'm giving Keto a try for 60 days so I'm in a similar boat as you. The first week was absolute hell as my body was adjusting to lack of carbs and I may have killed someone for a whoopie pie. However, I'm just over a week into it and my body has finally adjusted so I no longer have the cravings. I'm actually back to feeling pretty good. I dropped the first 5 lbs the last week and I'm hoping for 10-15 more by the time I'm done. I think yesterday was my first solid day in "ketosis" as I was pissing like a race horse every hour or so. Today it seems to have mellowed out a bit. When April rolls around I'll decide how I'm liking this and if I want to continue. My goal is to finally get under 190 and stay there. Last fall I hit 190 for about a day and then was hovering at 192-193 most days. Unfortunately I got sloppy between Thanksgiving and last week and popped back up to 204 which is very annoying. So now I'm back in the gym 3-4 days a week and virtually no carbs.
