I know for sure turnips and peas I am next to corn and soy beans too but trying to keep them out of as per the land owner
I agree with sota... soil test is obviously the first step and if it's new ground i always like penetrator radishes. Turnips are great for late season like right now, god know my deer are hammering mine. All depends on soil and sunlight though.
I was going to say fescue just to go against the grain but I won't. Oh my there are so many options depending on what you're trying to do. Warm season, cool season, nutrition or kill plot. One overlooked food source is milo....yeah it's a grass and it's warm season...however it holds grain and quality pretty well late and it can be interseeded with fall and winter greens, provides a little cover and is good for quail. Also offers some diversity from normal corn and soybeans. Blackbirds can be rough on it is it's only real drawback and there is a sugar cane aphid now that's a real issue depending on where you are.
Thank you all for the ideas I like radishes can’t plant milo per the land owner. But all other ideas sound great and yes turnips for late season for sure
I can furnish lots of dandelion seeds. Let me know and I'll send a small bag taken from my yard. When I lived in KY, people had a problem with deer getting into late gardens with planted with turnips.
