Hey all. A buddy and I plan on drawing wyoming general tags this season with 2.5 points. We will be hunting the last week in September. I've never been out there by am eyeing a few general areas and I am looking for some advice on which areas to scout this summer. Any one know if Elk populations in the Medicine Bow NF area, more specifically, elk units 21, 13 and 15 Also looking at similar area and zones 12, 110 and 9. We are also considering zones 37, and 36 in the Bighorns. Anybody have any god information about these units I'd love to have a conversation with you. Really like to narrow down 1 area to scout this summer and hunt this fall! Thanks in advance.
37 sees a lot of pressure both on the type 9 tag and also gen tags. So 2.5 points might not be a lock to draw a gen tag, we will see.
56% of people drew a general with 2 points last year so those other 44% will have 3 points going into the draw plus those with higher points that cash out on a general. 2.5 isn't going to guarantee a tag in 2019 Sent from my moto z3 using Tapatalk
Gohunt put the 2018 General tag at 64% for 2 points, I'm guessing it will be 100% this year again for 2.5 points, with 2 points dropping down towards 10%. There doesn't seem to be enough applications ahead of 2.5 points to force the odds down below 100. I could be wrong though. I hunted one of those units last year and we bugled in 29 bulls across 7 guys
Corey Jacobson just did an excellent video on applying for elk in Wyoming. You won't be drawing unit 37 on 2.5 points, apply in another unit.
New to the point system.. I have bought a point for the past 2 years in Wyoming just to start building up for "someday".. Where does the 1/2 point come from?
In Wyoming group applications combine then average the points. So if you and I applied together and l had 6 points, and you had 1 point we would have 3.5 points on our application.
A buddy and I are in with 2.5 points. I’ll let you know how are draw goes. Digging deep into these general units. They all seem decent. We’re going on late September for archery and plan on hitting it hard backpacking.
