We will be making ice this week. Had some rain yesterday that got rid of the little snow we did have. Won’t be long. [IMG]

Getting stories on a regular basis with people going threw the ice, there were a bunch of guys stuck on an ice flow on lake superior.

I’ve seen a bunch already too. I get wanting to get out and fish but these guys going out on 2inches are crazy. I will go out around 4 or 5 inches and that’s plenty early for me.

I've done both ways through Zippel Bay and like those guys a lot. One trip there were 4 of us guys and we spent the entire time in a sleeper house except going to the igloo bar a few times and shore for a couple bar meals. Another trip we had a large group of about 15 and we had day houses and stayed in a log cabin of theirs about 3 or 4 miles (if I remember correctly) from the lake. I'd check into those guys assuming their options/customer service hasn't changed.

Edit: For a bigger group, even just six, cabin on shore is what I would recommend. Much more room for card games and what not on shore. Likely only catch eelpout during the night anyways.

Buddies are bringing their castles but we will have portables with too. Going out of Angle Outpost. Basically the most northern part of MN you can get to.

Will be fishing on the south east side of oak island.

Sweet! I was invited up there for a week in January but I can't be gone for that long at a time.

Damn old lady and kid. I’m in the same boat though. Probably 4 days is what I could get out for.

My other half said with the bigger group he goes with, cabin on the shore is the way to go. Hes done the sleeper thing before & said its great if you REALLY like and get along with the guys with you. He had a large enough group they swapped guys between sleepers just to change it up. But would probably not do that again unless there was no other option. Im sure some of the shenanigans had something to do with that too...one of the other guys thought it would be funny to turn off the heat to the sleeper my other half & his brother were in....they figured it out at about 0300when they woke up because they were freezing cold.

Got out for the first time this year. Just on a small hole off the river. Caught mostly gills and some crappie with a bonus bass. There was only 3 inches of clear ice so it was a interesting one. Not many people on this spot yet so there was some poping and cracking. Few times the cracks went right under my feet . The gills I was catching were tanks. I kept a handful but I easily caught over 50 fish in a couple hours.

Here is a pic of a few laid out. Biggest crappie was 11” and gills were in the 8-9” range. [IMG]

Change of plans. Angle outpost road is not safe for vehicle travel so we are going out of Adrian’s on the south side of the lake.
