Headed out to hunt doe bedding area this afternoon. Got lots of evening pictures of them there. Hoping one of the big boys travels the downwind side of it. I'll be in a ground blind waiting on him if he does!

Been rough this year with health issues, Grandbaby arrival, work, and life getting in the way in general. Will be getting out this weekend, 3 days, and then gun season starts next weekend (will be hunting with crossbow, too). New toy to try out this year. I used it on my pig hunt.

Heading to the family farm this afternoon. Have a good wind for a stand deep in the holler where there normally is a bunch of rut activity.

Killed quite a few deer from this stand in the evenings. I killed a good one back there last year late in the late season with my smoke pole.
I had seen him twice during bow season with no shots taken. Needles to say this is a high confidence stand!

Awesome! Best of luck! I'll be at it in the morning. Just finishing up my checklist and waxed the strings. I need to shoot a few minutes. Haven't drawn it since Sept 21. Lol

Doe down! Finally...only took me 13 hunts. My buddy and I got it all on film and I'll share that later on. Doe came in about 4:45 tonight. Had rained most of today and finally let up. I typically would pass on a doe during rut but I've been itching to shoot and fill that tag. She came into an opening to my right. I was in my tree saddle and had no trouble getting ready for the shot. I wasnt sure if anything was behind her but I gave a meh when she came to 15 yards and let the arrow go. I double lunged her and got to watch her run 50 yards and barrel roll over the hill. Come to find out there was a smaller buck behind her. We gave a few grunts and another buck came in. Nice 8. My buddy had his long bow so I switched over to camera man. Both of the bucks didnt want to leave that doe and kept messing with her. The 8 finally came up to within 15 yards or so but caught our wind. My buddy took a shot but clipped a limb and had a clean miss. Almost had the double. I'll try to fill that buck tag sometime soon. Very exciting hunt and I'm happy as can be to shoot one from my tree saddle with my new Elite bow.

Yea it did mean a lot. The last thing that happened before my life got rocked on September 25th was I woke up and checked my phone for wireless trail cam pics. I had one of a buck and I sent it to my buddy who happens to be the guy I went hunting with last night. 5 minutes after that, hunting was the last thing on my mind.

My daughter had special needs and had a challenging 5 years. She made some huge milestones and blew the doctors (and us) away. We know exactly where she is. She’s perfect, unlimited, and doing great...we are now the handicapped ones. Faith, family, and friends have brought us through this. Hunting has played a part too.

One thing we know is life is easier. We have a lot more time. My wife understands how hunting is a part of my healing. I’ve never been able to hunt so much early season.

Today would be a good day to be in the woods chasing a buck. But it’s an even better day to spend with my family and that’s what I’m going to do. Hopefully the buck comes later. If not I’m satisfied with the doe from last night.

Older brother shot a nice one at 8:15 this morning on the family farm
Been helping him deal with it this morning. I'll be getting out this afternoon for an evening sit on the river bottom.

Here is a couple pictures of my bro's buck He is a dandy, Unique rack- long g1's forked g2 and has almost 40 inches of mass.

Just got back to Louisiana from the Illinois trip. We had a blast but I wasn't able to connect. I did have a great 8pt (probably 135+) at 35 yards but got busted by does when I drew on him....

Dad killed a dandy of a buck on Nov. 7th
    124" heavy horned

Brother in law texted me the other day that the neighbor down the road had a picture of a mountain lion on cam. He went down to see the pic and as the guy is scrolling through his picture my BIL sees pics of some huge deer. Mentions it to the guy and he says, yea we have a picture of a 20 point. My brother in law, who isn’t a hunter, didn’t ask to see that picture.

I know who owns the neighboring property and I gave them a call and they gave me permission to bowhunt this week. Is there really a 20 pt? Well there’s one way to find out! Or I might get eaten by the mountain lion (which appeared to be legit)

Glad to see some nice bucks down everyone! Hopefully everyone is getting some time to hunt and doing well. About 2 weeks ago, 10 days, after my season closed, I saw my #1 buck 40 yards from the property I hunt and the road chasing does at 9am. Almost drove my truck into a telephone pole when I got a glimpse of the antlers from the road. He's even more impressive in person. But thanks to California...... well I could go on forever about that so never mind. Fall turkey season is slow as molasses. I know there are good birds around but they just haven't really been coming through the property lately. Workers picking all the mandarins have a tendency to keep them away but I'm still trying.

Best of luck to everyone who's still big buck hunting! Hoping to see some more trophy photos!
