I was looking through some old photos and came across this one. It was my very first deer with a bow. I was 13 and could not have been more proud. It was 1984 and I was hooked for life. If it weren’t for the fact that I left the arrows in the deer it actually is a good photo considering the quality of camera that was used. Thought it would be neat to see if anyone else had some old photos laying around that they would like to share. I personally could not stop laughing when I saw my hat. I had totally forgotenabout my lucky coonskin cap. I killed many a deer with that thing on. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Actually a good thread idea. I wonder if my parents still have my first deer pic...1990 I think? Back of a 1977 pickup in front of my grandma's double wide. Small 8 point with 5, count them, 5 20ga slug holes in him. Looking back, I see where the trend started. My glasses were god-awful, I had a full on mullet. I hope they burned it.
I’m just saying that if the arrows were not sticking out of the deer the photo would be better. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
5. Semi-auto smoothbore 3 shot. First shot in the heart, he staggered forward and I shot 2 more times. He ran off into nearby CRP-type stuff. Not knowing better I ran forward and found a chunk of upper leg bone. I thumbed 2 more shells into it (all I had) and I walked forward into the grass and immediately jumped him. 1 more shot,, that one hit him in the jaw and sent him somersaulting. Walked up and he was still trying like heck to get up. Final one was a mercy tap to the back of the neck from point blank. The 2nd and 3rd shots hit him in back ankle between the achilles and bone and the very front of where his neck met his chest (not sure what order.) Freely admit I cried, pretty hard. Saw the same thing on my pincushion buck this season. Never gave up until his last breath. Amazing will.
all jokes aside, I disagree. Those arrows tell the real story. The story is not always pretty.. What we do is not for everyone. Respect the animal always, but respect the reality of what you had to do to earn the kill as well. Me seeing the first pic sanitized: "Your first kill was a button buck? That's nice. Cute cooncap, Dan'l" Me seeing the real pic: "You had to stick your first ever deer twice? And had the determination, will, and skill to do it? Tell me the story!"
Actually there are 3 arrows in him. One in shoulder was first shot. Then when trailing I snuck up on him and tried to finish him off and hit him in back leg. After more tracking saw him laying down and shot him in the head just in front of his left ear. Needless to say there was no more tracking needed!!!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Pretty sure this was in "84"...I had just gotten that "84" 200m that summer... damn thing tried to kill me a couple times that year, lol.
I didnt take a pic with a deer until about my 15th year hunting. I felt it was bad luck and disrespectful to the animal. That was just me back then. Wish I had some of those old rifle, shotgun, muzzleloader, and bow kill pics. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Primitive camp in 82 or 83...I can't remember. We stayed the week in a overhang way out deep in the state forest. I had a blast as a kid growing up and I set around the camp fires, tuned in, soaking it all up like a sponge, lol
These pics were taken in Bradford county Pa back in 1977. That was my first set of wheels, a 1977 Ford F150 4x4 and the little cabin we used to rent for the first week of "buck season". Then, eventually for antlerless as well. That was back when I had long blond hair. Now, not so much. This thread may have needed to be moved, but the Water Cooler isn't the place for it. It's too relevant to hunting to be here. jmo
Ever looked for one on Craigslist? Holy crap, even ones in crappy condition are over a grand. When you find one in decent shape they're usually over $2k.
