Hung a new stand this morning before light. Got settled in about 6 am. This guy walked by at 6:45. Closest he got was 38 and no lanes anyway. He went up in the woods in front of me about 80 yards and I thought he laid down. I just sort of lost him all the sudden and stopped hearing steps. So then I knew it was who can wait longer game that he was probably better at than I was. I waited through the next 3 hours hoping he would come back or a hot doe would pop through prompting him to get up and come my way. Then at 10 I got the next best thing. The neighbor pulling a noisy trailer up his driveway. The deer just couldn’t stand it and spooked out if his bed. Unbeknownst to him he wandered straight to my tree stand. He made it easy on me as he turned and quartered away at 6 yards. I got near side lung and straight through the middle of the heart. He stumbled down the hill and fell over within about 30 seconds. Pretty proud of this one just because i felt like I executed my plan as good as could be. Yeah I needed a little luck but that’s part of it. I was really happy that I didn’t get jacked when I saw him coming back. I stayed calm went through my checks and made an awesome shot that resulted in not needing the track job if I didn’t want it. He does hunt and actually built 3 cabins to house out of state hunters. There is a lot of leased land around where I hunt from out of staters. I’ve been very lucky to not have this leased out from under me honestly. I think the landowner where I hunt though would be pretty restrictive on a lease though too. The neighbor makes a killing off those cabins. And in the summer will host small weddings and things. It’s a pretty good gig. He paid for them the first year he did it and his wife was able to retire with the replaced income. Even seen some guys from pretty well known TV shows set up there. I try not to show people that live or hunt around there pictures of deer or deer that my dad and I have killed over the years. It’s really my only place to hunt and every year I’m afraid I’m going to go talk to the landowner only to hear that he leased it. I’m sure the neighbors have seen most of the deer I would like to keep secret but it’s the guys renting the cabins I worry about.
Nice job! Call it luck or just another variable. Either way you wer in right place at right time. Nice job man.
