I also checked the camera i put on the new farm. Ive been hunting it quite a bit since the wind direction has been bad for where I have wanted. The first deer on camera was this good looking buck. I can’t decide if he is 4 or a superstar 3 year old. I’d like to see him in another year. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have seen this buck almost every time I have hunted there. I’m calling him JK, short for Jack Kavorkian. He is absolutely ancient. Has to be at least 10 years old. He has a pretty substantial injury to one front leg. It doesn’t even bend at the knee. He hobbles around but was following a doe group the last time I saw him. His rack is all shriveled up due to the injury Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Really good looking 2 year old I have seen a couple times this week too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
When I have had the right wind to hunt my best spot, I haven’t seen my target deer, but I have been passing quite a few others. Ive passed this one 3 times. Great genetic 2 year old Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sat for him this morning. Didn’t see him but today is the best rut action I have seen so far. Bucks cruising everywhere. Had the back 40 buck dead to rights at 10 yards Then 5 minutes later had the same 3 yr old 10 point I have passed 3 other times come by at 25 yds Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
South wind so #1 was huntable. The video of Doug over the recently active scrape was a bit mysterious to me. Said you think it will be active tonight, and would post up the footage later tonight. Was it taken post shot? probably looking too much into it
Sorry if you got your hopes up...wasn’t me! My buddy Doug put an arrow in this one. We are still looking for it now. Not a great hit but I think deer is dead. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
For a guy who’s deer rarely get above 125, that back 40 buck looks like a beast! Good luck on your #1! Can’t wait to see him on here!
Well first off...sorry I have been slacking on updating this thread. I have been grinding extremely hard and quite frankly have been too worn out at night to do any updating. I still have not killed anything. This season is/has been extremely tough. I have been hunting nearly every day. I have seen a lot of bucks, and passed a lot of bucks, waiting on one particular deer. I have encountered my #1 6 times, and just haven't been able to close the deal. I passed half a dozen 5-8 year old bucks from 10/1-11/10. Then my #1 disappeared. My hope is that he was pushed out by the multitude of older bucks on the farm (he is only 4 1/2). Hopefully he isn't dead. As crazy as it may sound, now that we are wrapping up November, if I am able to confirm that he is alive, I will not shoot him. He is the only 4 year old i said I would shoot this year, and now we are late enough in the year that if he is alive I want him to live to 5 1/2. Since making that decision, I have seen plenty of 3-4 year olds, but the 5 year olds are scarce now. With the primary rut basically over, the mature bucks are pretty worn down. It will take the secondary rut to bring them back out, which traditionally hits here about December 7-10th. At this point, my focus is to take the first 5 year old that gives me an opportunity, as I still have all 3 tags. I am also hopefully going to get my wife out for shotgun season in a couple weeks. I'm not disappointed in my season so far. I knew it was a high risk high reward scenario when I decided to target one deer. On the bright side, we have 15" of snow on the ground, so these last few days before shotgun season should be pretty good. I have also elected to leave my entire 260 acres of corn at my home farm standing until shotgun season is over. I have the only standing crops for 4-5 miles that I am aware of. When shotgun season opens, I hope to inhale a whole bunch of deer and hopefully relocate some of the giants that have been MIA this year. I will get the corn out as soon as I can once shotgun season is over, and leave a couple acres standing in front of my box blind. so my home farm should be pretty awesome during late muzzleloader season, during which time I can still bow hunt as well.
Last night I put together the Pilot Trailer for my new project. If we can kill some of the deer we are after we will have some really cool stories to tell with a lot of history Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well I finally got a deer down. I made it out yesterday after work. Gun season comes in Saturday so I decided I would take a mature doe if I got an opportunity. I was actually able to capture the hunt via Facebook live, which was pretty cool. Now on to the late season! I still have 2 bow tags in addition to my gun tag so I ill be taking my bow with me on every hunt. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
