recommendations ? Leaning toward the new Triax…. Been shooting an Mathews LX since '07....I think its time ? Just really hard to let go of a bow that still shoots well and puts them down.
If your still comfortable with old bow, no reason to upgrade. But bows have come a long way since then. What bow shop do you go to? Autumn Sky has alot of different brands in stock. Would be worth going there and shoot everything they have and let the bow pick you. Sent from my SM-G900V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Really, performance wise, bows haven't actually changed that much in the last ten years. Most of the changes have been in materials and looks, performance, not so much. Bows have pretty much reached their peak of efficiancy. jmo I have a 2007 Hoyt Vectrix which I've killed plenty of deer with. It has given me zero issues, it shoots well, it's quiet, and I'm comfy with it. Why would I want to spend $1000 replacing it?
Go shoot a new bow and you will see what I'm talking about. Sent from my SM-G900V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I don't think the changes are significant enough to warrent the purchase of a new one. Again, just my opinion. But, there will always be those who want to have the newest flagship bow, and keep up with the Jone's. That's fine, I'm just not one of them. A deer can only be so dead.
Materials in old bows are old and some are prone to age issues. Delamination, worn bushings, slides, pulleys, etc...These are all reasons why a person may want to consider buying a new rig. Of course it's arguable a new bow could have similar problems from poor materials or craftsmanship, etc...but, it's far more likely of a problem the older a bow gets. It's like someone saying as long as their 1980 model pickup is running good then they don't see a need to replace it. Not everyone would agree with that statement though it may be perfectly arguable from their point of view.
You wouldnt be loosing anything at this point if you upgrade a new bow every 5-8 years at this point. Going foward maybe even longer. I am saying this from the point of view of guy that generally buys a few new bows a year. Things are pretty static at this point
I do agree with you. I don't buy a new bow every year, but I do go and shoot the new bows every year just for fun. I buy about every 6-7 years. I sell my old bow and buy new, so it only cost me $500-600 for a new $1000. flagship bow. You should really just go shoot a few new ones, alot has changes on performance in the last 12 years. You will be shocked! Sent from my SM-G900V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I’m w/Holt... treat yourself to a day of going to a shop and shooting a few bows... what’s the worse that could happen? You buy 1.... and if you don’t end up buying 1 then you had a great day of shooting them...
Nice! I bought from DC one time, never again Sent from my SM-G900V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I never understood buying a new bow and the latest gear every year. Maintaining a property cost so much already. Tractor Seed Fert. Trailer Lime Stands Cameras Apple trees etc That's where my money goes. I can hit a quarter with any bow at 20 yards so why piss away 1000-1600 year after year.
I'm still shooting the old switchback xt. I shoot it very well and love the draw. I still love this bow like I did when I bought it. I will not be changing any time soon.
If you want a new bow and can afford it then why not? Personally I'd wait until the new models are released as long as I had something to hunt with now.
Nov 13 ? I think I was told the "new" Mathews are coming out... I told Don at ASO I was Christmas shopping early and not in a hurry. He understood perfectly. He also said he could shoot any bow he wanted... then showed me his set-up.... a Triax….that says volumes to me
IF I buy a new bow, I'm pretty sure at this rate it will be my last ??? lol Unless I have to go to an X-bow when I get older.
LOL Well let me tell you!!! I just upgraded my bow and all equipment. I have been shooting a Jennings Buckmaster Lite since 1996. Holy Crap the improvements that have come along. that being said I will shoot this one probably the same time span. LOL
Bought a Triax this year and love it. Great bow! But I wouldn't get rid of your other one. Keep it as a nice back up and one you're used to. Being as it's an 07 it's probably worth more to you sentimentally than it would be to try and get the money out of it. Most rifle hunters don't have just one gun.
