No luck this morning. Had 2 coyotes blaze through at Mach 3 but no deer.
Has anyone seen deer come down the same trail as coyotes? I’ve always seen deer stop dead in there tracks and avoid the area if they smell coyote.
I was considering calling it a morning after the coyotes came through but sat it out.

Chalk up #2 for the team. Scored on a big fat doe tonight. Perfect 15 yard shot, she piled up on camera just 40 yards away. I'll update scorecard tomorrow or Monday. Gotta finish getting cleaned up and get to bed - headed back out in the morning.

Something wrong with you boy! You get over to Ohio you better give me a holler. I'll take you over to Mikes and show you the full body mount of the Beatty Buck. Might be a cool story for the site.

Well team, got her on the scorecard.

To be honest I'm having a hard time celebrating this one because my shot placement was terrible. I'm still not completely sure what happened, the point of impact was way back. I hit just forward of the diaphram and cliped the liver and the arrow came out of her back leg. I hit the femoral artery and she was dead in 10 seconds in sight. I was so disgusted with myself but thankful she died quickly.

The gut job really surprised me, figured I would have a mess on my hands but truthfully the stomach had a 1 inch hole and nothing had spilled out. Was clean as could be in there.

I was on my own so the pics aren't the best but here she is.

Sometimes things go wrong - we've all been there! Just enjoy it and be thankful that you recovered her quickly. That femoral does a number on them for sure!

Yeah, she wasn't bad size. Not the biggest on a farm but a good eater!

Looks like the barometric pressure is going to be through the roof tomorrow night and Thurs morning so I'm going to try and get out for at least one of those two sits. Most likely the afternoon tomorrow. Going to be a bit cold and windy but I'm hoping to see a buck older than 1.5 on his feet finally. I haven't seen squat lately.

Tentatively planning on hunting some IL public on Friday afternoon and then maybe my lease on Saturday when all of the yahoos are out. I've decided I don't like hunting public on the weekends.

Anyone else process their own deer? So much work but worth it to me to know what I'm getting in the end product. Finished up my last task tonight with making 5lbs of ground. Tried something different and did 20% beef fat this time.[IMG][IMG]

Nice work! I just ground up a bunch the other night. I did 5 lbs of 80/20 bacon burger and another 5 lbs 80/20 using pork fat/ends. I've been wanting to try beef fat as well. Let me know how it turns out.

Thinking about tossing a roast in the ol' slow cooker this week and making up a fresh batch of BBQ venison for sammiches this weekend.

On a side note, conditions are looking good today so I'm ducking out of work and heading out to my lease which is 2 hours away. I have the perfect spot for this NW wind I can slip in and try to kill one. Weather this weekend looks crappy and I can't hunt Sunday so it's kind of now or never. Figure it's worth a shot.

Nice! Foo Fighters puts on a hell of a show. Seen them a couple times now. Have fun!

The rest of October is pretty messed up for me in terms of hunting. Lots of family stuff going on - religious ed with my son, birthday parties, baptisms, Halloween parties, trick-or-treating, etc. I told my wife last night once Halloween is over she should just pretend I'm dead until Thanksgiving. I'm not going to anything except my treestand.

I've seen the Foo Fighters one other time, great show. One of my favorite bands.

My wedding anniversary is late Oct, my birthday is mid Nov my oldest daughter's birthday is in late Nov, and my wife's birthday is in early Dec. I know all about obligations during the deer season. I have dialed it back in the last few years and hunting smarter not harder.
