So hit my buck of the season last night but with the wind I had it carried my arrow way more than I thought it would and I end up hitting him on the inside upper ham of his right leg it looked like from my camera. I tracked him for a long time today and eventually the blood became very sparse but at first there was great blood thought I clipped the femoral artery. One what's your guys opinion on the blood and two think he will come back? Last blood was about 300-400 yards away from initial impact... Appreciate anything you guys say Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Have you found the arrow, looks like he laid down and was able to rise from it, also blood may be clotting up, he could wonder for awhile now, Keep looking in the direction he was going, maybe towards water as well. Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
He crossed the creek twice and I left him over night and I did find the arrow too had some fat on it. I followed as far as I could till I couldnt see to find blood anymore Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Were you able to get back on him today? Keep working larger circles around your last blood. Grid search dense areas or creek bottoms for sure.
I followed him to last blood and then started to grid search for him and didn't find any blood or him. If I didn't hit the main artery what are the chance though he would survive? Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
There was at the beginning got me pretty positive about it and then it just turned into sparse drops here and there some better trails of blood for a bit then others and then just drops again and bright red... From everything I've read sounds like if I did hit that artery he would of gone down within 30-120 yards and lots and lots of blood spraying out. And if it was a non fatal leg meat shot it would be pretty much what I'm seeing. But part of me never wants to give up looking and the other part is saying to back out and stop bumping him around and maybe he will return later in the season Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
I do not think bumping him on the trail, if you are getting that close is going to have much impact on him returning to his home range. Without being there and having a feel for what that deer has been doing (going up or down hills, bedding down, etc.) it is tough to predict if he is down or not. I agree that that is a lot of blood in places and he is probably down. Once it clotted and you lost blood, he is still bleeding internally to some degree. Probably tough going getting on to day 3 but....good luck!
Not much for hills where I am he is in and out of the wetlands to hardwoods. The clotting and most of the blood was about 80 yards from initial impact. That bed of blood was right beside the river and 80 yards from where I shot him. You think there would be much internal bleeding for a low hind leg shot? Internal could take a few days too no?
