I was drawn to participate in an archery only state park quota hunt in late December at a state park I spent countless hours at in my younger days. I am super stoked.... if only i could kill another buck, but alas no dice. Because of this I am in the market for a relatively inexpensive but effective ground blind. I am pretty tall and my bow is a bit older so I need it to be pretty tall. Also, I am VERY tight on funds (A 17 month old will do that) and would appreciate any suggestions you guys might have that won't break the bank. THanks in advance.
Ameristep usually has some decent ground blinds for under $150. Not sure what the current models are for this year. It has been a couple of years since I bought one.
Back in the day, I used a simple piece of burlap to be my ground blind. I'd find a small diameter tree and tie one end to it, then tie the other end to sticks/branches that I would arrange to support it. I actually used old potato sacks. Can't get cheaper than that unless you just hunt from dead falls.
I've had tremendous success with making blinds on the fly. it's so much easier then hauling something out with you. unless you're setting up in the middle of a field. Just grab some branches stack them to make a frame, then start piling up brush on it. all natural.
I recently picked up an HME Executioner and I have to admit for the price it's a really nice blind. I just set one up a couple weeks ago and may hunt out of it for the first time this weekend. You can pick up the 3 person for like $125 and the 2 person is somewhere around $100.
Here's my 3 person brushed in and ready to go. There's a bunch of apple trees and acorns 20-30 yards in front of it.
I bought two cheap $40 ground blinds from the sportsman’s guide. Brushed em in like crazy. “Can’t see the lines, can you Rus?” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Exactly. If it’s brushed in good enough it doesn’t matter what brand it is or how much it costs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If it's brushed in good enough you don't need a blind at all. Look for fallen trees, rock walls/outcroppings, whatever, and make your own "blind" out of what nature provides.
Very true. I only recently purchased a ground blind to conceal my movement. I have ADHD, and sitting still is nearly impossible for me. I’ve been busted so many times from fidgeting. Even using a ghille suit in the bushes, deer have picked me out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ok Joe, I have seen this same pic on at least 2 different threads. My question is, where the hell is the blind???????? Ha ha ha!! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
The new HME groundblinds look to be very sturdy, reliable and easy to setup. I will be buying one in the next few weeks.
I have killed a couple bucks from the ground from behind camo burlap back in the day. One was at seven paces (shotgun) another was ten yards with a bow. I had a couple wooden dowels zip tied to it and a short piece of rope to make a sling for it. Packed it in and out on public ground in NY.
I have a Herters blind that I got from Cabelas for about 100 bucks and used it for the first time this past Friday afternoon. I had 3 does just outside of bow range and a fox come by. Pretty awesome to be on their level!
I have a baronett big mike that works nicely for taller hunters. It's reasonably priced and so far has held up well. I have bought several cheap <$75 blinds and they just don't hold up.
