I’ve asked a few people and haven’t gotten a definitive answer. I have also reached out to Whitetail Institute to see, since it’s in their blend. I planted a mix of Whitetail Institute Double Cross and Winter Pea Plus. I also mixed a little Co-Op clover in so I could have a little clover this year. Co-Op clover does better right out of the gate than any others I’ve tried. The double cross is mainly their imperial clover with a small percentage of brassicas. I’m not 100% of everything in it specifically. The Winter Peas plus is 80% peas and the rest is a mix with Kale, Oats and some others. It seems like some sort of a brassica judging by the root on it. Purely guessing. I want to have everything identified so I can see what the deer prefer in this spot going forward. Also, if you’re wondering why the plants have holes and don’t look great, I almost lost the plot when we went thru a drought. Here’s the plant in question. Here’s some other various pics of the plot. I’ve overseeded the bare spots. We have only had 2 rains in the month it’s been planted. One around a week after then about 5-6 days ago Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That was Covey’s thought as well. Still haven’t spoke to whitetail institute Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Just looked them up and I think you guys are correct. The root is already looking like that on the one I pulled up. We will see if the deer will eat it. They’re hitting natural browse and acorns a lot right now. The food plot does well, when the leaves change Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
They love Daikon Radishes everywhere I've planted them, will actually eat them before any other brassica I've seen.
Exactly the opposite here for me but the issue with deer and brassicas changes drastically from area to area. I almost consider those radishes filler in the mixes. Our deer hardly touch them. Of course we usually have so much out there for them to eat they pick the candy out first and what they consider candy is highly subjective to a lot of things, the deer itself, PH, fertility, native browse, etc...etc...
