What arrow shafts do you chose for hunting?

I have been shooting the Easton Axis shafts for some time now but am due to buy some new ones. I have thought about trying out the FMJ's for no other reason than it's just something different. I like the axis and they have done the job well but wanted to see what a lot of other hunters are shooting.

What about the arrows makes you buy them?

 

I have victory gamers. Used goldtip before that. Will probably use fmj's next too. No reason why.

 

I feel as if you can’t go wrong with anything made by gold tip, Easton, BAE, victory and I’m sure I’ve left a few out. I my self shoot the gold tip kinetic pierce

 

I shoot the old school Easton xx75 2314's.

I shoot Beman ICS Hunter Classic

 

Easton acc and fmj. Main reason is because they are not 100% carbon.

 

They are absolutely old school!!

 

I use Carbon Express Maxima Express Red Small Diameter.

 

Easton 400 FMJ. Looking forward to putting them into a deer this year.

 

You want the truth? It totally doesn't matter! Any decent quality arrow will do the job. Just like any decent broadhead or bow will do the job. The newest thing I own is my bow, and this will be it's 10th season. I shoot old aluminum 2117 arrows out of it that I bought in bulk over 30 years ago. Guess what, the deer still die!

 

Thats good to know. The aluminum arrows I shot back in the day were slightly bent after heavy use and would not roll straight on a table. After 30 years and those aluminum shafts are still straight shooters, I guess your going something right.

 

No, not doing something right, I bend them too. It's just that I bought 5 dozen 2117 and 5 dozen 2315 for $100 from a going out of business sporting goods store way back in the late 80's. 2315 for my 70lb bow, and 2117 for when I shoot 60lb. I switched to Gold Tip for a while, and they were fine, but I just like the aluminum, I just shoot better with them, and they penetrate better.

 

Just picked up another 1/2 dozen Puledrivers myself last Thursday.

Victory RIP with easton HIT inserts and VPA Aluminum footers with laser vanes for my favorite whitetail arrow set up
I would also shoot Black Eagle Rampages but give Victory a slight edge

 

Wall thickness with aluminum's is a huge factor. Anything less than 15 and they will follow the stereotype of bending easily. 17 and up has about the same threshold as most mainstream carbons do but with the advantage of being much straighter consiatently out if the box.

I switched to Black Eagle Renegades this season after not liking the Easton Axis for the past two seasons. Same smaller diameter with a half out insert; higher FOC and the tips do not shred like with the HIT on the Axis. Seems to be far more durable and about $20/half dozen cheaper.

 

Thanks for the post. I will look into them. I see the insert is 56 grains. That’s probably more than the hit insert?

I have not had any damage to the axis shafts.
