Wind shot practice

How many of you actually take the time to shoot on windy days, that is about as windy as you would shoot from the stand. I am guilty of waiting for the perfect afternoon, very little to no wind to practice. Maybe I should shoot on some of the not so perfect days as when in the stand and the wind picks up I am not about to leave.

Just want to hear what some of you do on them not so perfect days.

 

When I shoot it is what it is, rain, hot, coldish and windy. Lol we don’t get a lot of long stand cold in southern Louisiana. Just a few weeks.

 

I'm with Russ, except the only time I shoot in the rain is when I'm shooting with my buddies.

 

It's a great concept. Shoot all conditions. I like to take a quick run then shoot ,or push ups then shooting or a few times a season I like to max out my arms( full draw hold as long as possible then relax and repeat) then toss a few arrows. I hope it makes a difference

How about the "one shot" practice? I do this occasionally. You only get one shot in the woods.

 

I used to do this a few times a day at my old property, elevated on a small platform on the corner of my deck.

 

I shot out to 70 on Saturday, getting ready for an elk hunt at the end of September. I wore a pack with 35 lbs in it while I shot. I did the 1-shot drill; move to a random distance, range, shoot, retrieve the arrow, move to a new spot and repeat. It is great practice. I also learned that as I fatigue from wearing the pack, I start missing low and left.

 

I practice all conditions. Rain not so much unless it's lite

 

I can't help myself but to keep shooting after the first shot. I do get very upset if my first shot is crap though.

 

Sure do. Makes a difference on the longer shots. A lot of people would be surprised at how much harder it is to steady your bow on windy days.

 

I shoot heavy arrows Do not see my piledrivers getting blown away or off course by wind. One thing that will shut down deer movement is high winds.

 

I shoot in the wind whenever i can. Most of my hunts take place in the west and up north and wind is a constant factor.
It wouldnt be uncommon to shoot a full bubble off for hunting distances for 40-60 shots. The efects of wind are significant.

 

On long shots in open country, 25 yard shots in the woods not so much.

 

I kinda just take what I get when I shoot. I have noticed a difference when shooting in the wind, I think if the wind was so high that Kentucky windage was a must I would not take the shot on a deer. My shooting lately has been in 96 degree heat, pure misery here in NC
