I gave up on my bloodrunners after last year to no ones fault but my own. Shot one of my biggest bucks ever last year and never recovered him... Hit a branch and hit low, thought I missed until I got down and saw blood on my arrow. knew it was a low shot and didnt wanna bump him so I waited 14 hours before tracking. Found good blood right off the bat next day and maintained good blood for almost 3 miles until it ran dry... he never bedded once. Spent the next two days scanning the forest for any sign and nothing. First unrecovered deer in my 8 years of hunting.

Tomorrow is the Friday before a long holiday weekend. Saturday is the deer season opener.

I do believe that tomorrow afternoon the drive home will include windows down and radio cranked to Ted Nugent's Fred bear.

im not hunting Nebraska this year so no super early season for me. Missouri opens sept 15.

also wanted to share something i learned last year that kept me warm in colder weather, using Duluth Trading company shoreman fleece jacket and or vest as mid layers, holy crap gentlemen those things are warm and not bulky.
    also windproof.

ill be rocking the vest on most of my hunts and the jacket over vest when really cold. Another nice part is they come in talls, so even if you dont normally wear a tall it'll keep you crack from getting exposed while leaning/moving in stand.

I might have to invest in some Nebmo. I have a hard time keeping warm. I bought a heated body suit that helps but makes it challenging with a bow.

I haven’t done this contest before as I haven’t had anything too good to go after till this year.

I spend my week 8-5 Monday thru Friday in an office staring at excel. I work for staples tech services team and I do scheduling and payroll and reporting. Let me tell you... it’s exciting.. lol

Anywho here is my #1 and #2 hit listers. Anyone have any idea which should be #1 and #2 though. I keep going back and forth IMG_2519.JPG IMG_2521.JPG

I'm a sucker for wider racked deer so I'd vote the first one. Honestly though just shoot what makes you happy.

Lol. Thanks. I found the live version on Pandora. It is a 10 minute long song. Perfect length for my drive.

i also like wide deer, wish i had some on my land... closet thing i have to a "wide" deer is a giant fork horn, and wide is relative to the fact that he's a fork

I might not be able to make it out for my planned opening evening hunt but I have a good reason.

There is a chance of my first grandchild being born today. Have to see how things go as the day progresses...

Didn't get much for pics of my big IL buck but did get a few. I formally introduce you all to Ape Hanger. He's a 4 year old that hopefully doesn't make it to 5 because of me. ;)

No grandkid for me today and now it looks like storms are moving in so I still won't make it hunting on opening day.

I'll hunt in the rain but draw the line at stormy weather

    Checking in.

Live in Iowa. Haven’t started running trail cameras yet. Season opens Oct 1. Will hunt the rut hard.

My dad has added a couple new food plots that should be interesting to hunt.

Heading to Colorado elk hunting public ground Sept 13 for a week.

Best of luck to everyone this year.
