Why?

Maybe it's just me but why do so many of you set your trail cams just to take photos? To me, you see so much more of what is going on when set to video mode. It's pretty amazing what you capture. I posted this video last year but want to show a sample of what I am talking about. Most clips captured on a Bushnell Essential E3 and a couple on the 2017 Bushnell Aggressor.

yup
ive got 8 cameras running, each with 8 lithium aa batteries
ive got 2 16gb chips for each camera. now ill put them on video while hunting sometimes because i have some cameras aimed at shooting lanes, but where we hunt of left on video and there is a slight breeze itll be full of videos of nothing, have a full.chip and dead batteries

 

I never really had a problem, but I just buy alkaline batteries. I just got a 100pk of AA's from walmart.com for $25. Those will last me all season running 6 cameras. I switch out cards every week or 2.

It depends on the setup. Mid December-September 1st I run in picture mode mostly. I pretty much know what the deer are doing during that time. One Fall hits I will set some cameras to video on scrapes or food plots. That does help gather additional intel. But until Energizer decides to sponsor me, running video on 50+ cameras just isn't feasible.

 

I get bored looking at pictures videos would be too time consuming.

 

I'm sort of in the same boat. I usually will put a camera or two on video mode once deer get more into their fall ranges. I only run 4 cameras and 3 of those are just on trails where if I did get a video it would only be like a few seconds long, so I dont really see the point. I have one in my "food plot" if you even want to call it that pointed at a little mock rubbing tree I put out that I will put video mode eventually though.

 

Batteries are cheap and all I do is video. My Browning spec ops extreme and Stealth ds4k last over 2 months on a set of alkaline batteries. I use 16 and 32 GB cards . I come close to filling them in a two week period. I put the 16 GB were I expect lower traffic. My Reconyx xr6's have lithium batteries and last about 4 months on them. I very seldom get false triggers. That's just proper setup.

I just changed a couple of mine this past weekend to video. I'm hoping it pays off, because I am trying to catch a particular buck just in general that is a little camera shy, so I am hoping I will get a better look at him.

 

It might be better on newer cams now, but I know most have a slower trigger when on video, I have a g42ng I bought a 12v external battery and 32gb card as I was planning on running video, I have it set on a trail, I get good pics on it, but on video it either missed whatever went by or or just caught the butt end most of the time. My other cams I never tried for cost of batteries and cards filling up as I can’t check them that often.

 

You are correct. That's why I got away from bushnell. The video starts between 4 and 7 seconds after trip. My browning and Reconyx are under one second. My Stealth is right at one second.

I don't because the deer in my area hate it. I switched a log glow IR cam from pictures to video and the older deer avoid it like the plague. I first started getting video of the antler coming into view then the deer turning and running away. I setup another cam on a secondary trail and they were walking around it. Switched it back to photos and they started walking by that area again.

 

I run my cameras to see pics of deer, not to try to win an academy award.
I don't have much desire to watch ten hours of video. It's okay once in a while if I have a particularly big buck but I just don't really care much about video.

 

I don't check my cameras that often. I also don't have a whole day 2 spend filtering through hundreds sometimes thousands of videos

 

I usually put on video over a scrape.

 

On videos no glow is the only way to go imo. Some people say they don't have issues with low glow but I have.

I agree. No glow camera is the only way 2 go. Those glow cameras are good for nice pics of scared big bucks running. I haven't even put my 5 cameras out in 2 years. The are no flash but the deer still know there not natural.

 

What he said and it also takes long enough to go through the 3,000+ photos from each pull let alone videos.
