Not worth it to me . Temps way to high , you wouldn't have long to get a deer dressed before loosing the meat . If you are off on shot placement in this heat you just lost any chance of saving the meat. I would rather have meat in the freezer than a velvet mount that I can't eat.
I don't necessarily agree with this. A deer does not start to lose its body temp until it expires, and that starts a slow progress regardless of temps. While I agree you cannot let one lay overnight and expect a successful recovery of the meat, it still depends on the time of expiration. You're not going to be hanging deer in those temps regardless, so it's all about time of death. After field dressing time really turns critical. Hunting warm temps always warrants extra precaution on shot execution, but these hunts should see the most less pressured deer hunts of the season, waiting would probably be easier. You still have plenty of time to give a deer time before tracking, I would rate a moderate rain a bigger concern over summer temps. I'm not afforded the opportunity in IL, but if given one I'd give it a go if I could get a pattern down on a few groups.

100% agree...plenty of western/southern deer and antelope are taken every year in 90*+ temps that make it into the hunter's freezers. Yes the chances for spoilage are higher but if you use your head you can make it happen. It just takes extra planning and good shot execution.
I agree. Personally I feel deer this time of the year are easier to shoot (If you find them). They are slow and deliberate with their movements. A rutted up buck can be tough to get stopped and may never present an ethical angle. There is give and take, but one thing I stress about is getting deer stopped or slowed down while in the chase phase. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Nice deer, TWRA says 772 deer were harvested over the velvet hunt. I got back from my trip Sunday evening and didn't want to deal with the heat, so no velvet hunt for me this year.
Not disagreeing with your points at all, was just saying that the reward of a velvet buck wasn't worth the risk to me. It is doable for sure , and I take my hat off to those that went out in the heat and got it done.
I am no expert, but I would say that is a good number for 3 day hunt in Tennessee, or maybe anywhere.
