So I like hunting field edges, but I was wondering, how do you know which wind to hunt? It seems like you don't want it blowing into the field, but it also seems like you don't want it blowing through the bedding area or where they will be walking. Just a question I had.

I only hunt field edges in the evening, and I want the wind blowing into the field. You always want the wind blowing towards where the deer are headed to, not where they are coming from.

I can tell you in all my years hunting I've never set up on a field edge. Every hunter and their brother walk the field edges....grass fields. Foreign to me....give me the hardwoods every day

Ya I'm the opposite. I hunt field edges the most. Mostly soybean and alfalfa/white clover

I'm about like you ,back in the 80's ,. I wasted more time hunting fields edges than any other setting.

It's easy, hunt the wind that is best for the deer. Then set up with a just off wind direction from were the deer are entering the field.

This is basically what I do. In addition I will use a buck decoy to help guide them into position.
I agree hunting where the deer don't want to be is a waste of time.

I have multiple stand sights so I have the versatility to shift based on the wind. I will hunt field edges but mainly I am in the staging areas.

stay at least 30 - 40 yds inside the woods downwind of the parallel trail that the bucks use to scent check the field before entering. watch the farmland bucks video from nextbuk outdoors. it is an excellent video. you can buy it for about $20 or so.
