Finally made a hay bale blind

As the title says, I finally took the time to build a hay bale blind and it turned out about how I was hoping. Hopefully it can hold up to MN weather. I think next year I may change the hay to just a burlap for a couple of reasons. Easier to replace, won't attract critters quite as much and much less hassle. The only thing I would do different is have help for some parts. Doing it alone was nice but definitely would have been quicker with help.

The only problem i had the whole build is when i was stubbling it last night, my wedding ring disappeared in the hay somewhere! Luckily it was just my Qalo work ring and not my good one!

Second to last picture - left window has a "cover" over it and right one is open into blind. That way it's always black but will be covered when I'm not the or that window isn't in use.

I’d figure out a insulation blanket between the black plastic and burlap. Cut down on the noise and it does get cold up there.

How did you get the metal ribbing to bend like that? It looks fairly thick.

 

It's your standard 50" x 16' cattle panel so it bends pretty easily. I will say that this part really sucked by myself though! Held in place with wood post staples. on the pallet sides and then on the top cross 2x4s.

 

Inside picture. Need to do a floor yet to cut down on sound. Thinking maybe those rubber puzzle piece mats.

Thanks! I had almost all of the material laying around but if I had to go and buy it all I would say ~$160-$180.

Love your design, how did you attach the wire panels to the pallet base? Did you just use the staples like you did on the top or a different method?

Yupp I just used the wood post staples like you see on the top for the sides as well. Put one at each T in the fence.

 

Thank you. Think I'm going to pick up some panels tonight and see what I can do. I only have a 4 x 8 trailer so this should be an adventure. My plan is to bend the panels to the rough shape of the blind stuff them into the trailer and use lots of rachet straps. It will look like an Oregon trail wagon going down the road. Keep in mind this is just to get the panels home, I will not be incorporating the trailer into the design of the blind.

Does that sound feasible?
