Well, i spotted the bear recently that came into my food plot with her yearling cubs last year. Thought she had moved into another area....guess not! That puts walking into &out of the stand in the dark at a different level!

It’s been several years since I’ve done this contest. Are they still giving away a gift certificate to the winning team members?

I am so torn or my rutcation dates this year.

Full moons this year fall on Oct 24th and Nov. 23rd, no worrying about having to deal with that issue.

Torn between taking Nov. 2nd - 11th or the 9th through the 18th.

I've had luck with all of those dates. My late Uncles Birthday is the 6th(Saturday) and Veterans Day(he was a paratrooper in the Vietnam War) falls on Sunday the 11th. I will be able to hunt those two days regardless as I do not work weekends in Nov.

So the choice really comes down to 5th- 8th or 12th- 15th.

Highly leaning towards the 2nd-11th but something keeps telling me the 9th-18th.

Killed my best bucks on 5th, 7th and 12th.

I feel like the peak window for me atleast where I hunt in Indiana is usually Nov. 5-15th. I prefer my vacation to be sometime in that 10 day stretch.

But ya can’t go wrong with any of the dates you have in mind can ya?!

If that were my choice, I'd go with 2nd - 11th as well. :tu:

Sounds like you answered your own question. Take the first week If 2 of the 3 biggest bucks you have taken during that time.

Definitely not, first 3 weeks of November are always fool proof. Hardest part is hunting all of them and knowing which day not to pass

That is my first and initial choice as well, but still somewhat conflicted.

This will be the first "Rutting Moon" since Charles Alsheimer passed. Under his theory the peak rut would fall on the 7th, which is the New Moon and falls on a Wed.

Do you hunt the waning side of the full moon or on the waxing side of the new moon?

I could also get creative and take two 5 day rutcations.

Halloween to the 4th and the 7th to 11th working the 5th and 6th for a small break of all day sits.

I'm thinking 2nd to 11th wins out though.

Younger bucks start chasing around the 28th with some mature bucks flipping patterns. Seeking starting around the 3rd, lockdown 6th-9th and seeking starting back on the 10th.....?????

Weather, weather and weather the only 3 unknowns

Do you still have the option to go into work if weather and movement are slow first week? Then wait and take some days in the next week.

Kinda sorta with a maybe attached lol.

A few seasons ago I took my vacation. It started off well with having an up and comer basket 8 come out on my first work day off(Monday) and went down hill the rest of the day. Fog burned off and the sun came out. Hit upper 70's before I hear a tsshtt, tsshht, tsshhtt. Took me forever to figure it out and finally seen a small white flash in the grassy field about 7 yards out. Was a damned leopard frog hopping through.

Climbed down to head home and turtles were sliding off logs on the pond on the way out.

Went straight into work and asked to switch my vacation to the following week and work the remaining days. Took a bit of convincing as it was forecasted to be upper 70's the rest of the week.

Fog set in thick each morning and high temps never left the upper 50's low 60's.

Doubt it would fly this year with work ramping up, but if it came down to it I would try my best.

They don't cover shifts, they just deal with an absence the best way possible and it would all depend on business at the time.

I'm pretty sure I was in Illinois that year/week too. It was brutally warm. Hunting in a short sleeve t-shirt. 6 all day sits in a row. Our last day was finally lows in the 30's. At that point I couldn't have cared any less.

EDIT: I was walking to the truck with a stand on my back and one on my front, when I see a shooter buck running across the field towards me, " I yelled at it as loud as I could, "F%$^ YOU!!!" It stopped and bounced off in another direction. I have never been so burnt out from hunting as I was at that point. I did not see a buck over 100" all week

I always do, but never leave it feeling good. Haven't faired well in the playoffs for the most part and regular season only has major impacts late in the year.

Another late one this year, week 15.

Last seasons match up turned the tide of the playoffs, Steelers had the oportunity to win that game but instead were sent the Jags after the Bye.

Back on topic, I won't be on stand for this years match up. They play every year, hope it never falls on the first 2 Sundays of Novemeber unless it is a night game and even then apprehensive

October 25th is always a “mature bucks checking scrapes in daylight” kinda day here in NE Ohio. I love that last week of October cuz that’s when your trail camera intel actually matters, after November 1st it’s a free for all.
