Really? Checked a few trees this weekend and hardly saw any. Gonna be a good year for plots I think here.
I am always aware when they start dropping my patio is right under a white oak tree, there is another white by my firewood lean to the lean to has a metal roof and I can hear overtime an acorn hits the roof.
Its been my experience that early dropping acorns are bad acorns--- usually wormy, yes this is early check em out, deer do not like bad acorns either
While I would not say they are not worm free I have not found holes in any and the are out of the caps. Could be the variety of white oak I have but they always seem to drop right around this time of year and I do have deer coming in the yard where ever the grass is short.
White oaks are loaded with acorns in my area this year, but we are still a good 6-8 weeks away from any significant drop. Should be a super year on the oak flats just off clear cuts.
I am seeing white oaks up here and they are still a good ways away from dropping. Hunting them is tough though since most of the trees in my area are oaks and its all thick, flat, ground with no real terrain definition.
Man I hope they don't drop here as early as they did last year. I had some awesome trail cam pics all the way to october due to the acorns dropping but come october they were no where to be found!
Just saw some oaks tonight that had quite a few, still really green though. We have quite a few Burr oaks around here, do the deer hit them as hard as white oak?
Rounded leaf lobes the deer prefer them. The guy showed to trim the horse hooves today his oaks are dropping to trust his opinion he reads what is happening too.
