Brassica mixes, deer eat the tops when it’s cold and the bulbs when it’s even colder. I plant lots.

I've had mixed results with cowpeas. I tried the pea, oats and arrowhead clover mix back a couple years ago and before the peas could really kick into gear they ate them down to nothing. I still like the idea but I think I will mix in buckwheat next time. Did you mix anything else in? What part of Oklahoma? I am planting a good amount of sunn hemp next year with Catjang peas.

On our other property I had only planted cowpeas with great success, but our new place has lots of doe that demolished the plot. Now I am going to wait until September 1st And put in winter wheat and some sugar beets/turnips.

    We are in Binger, Ok

Good 'ol Binger! I used to hunt out in Cogar. I just bought all my fall plot seed of barley, cereal rye, bayou kale, sugar beets and a couple of clovers. Being that close to Binger/Ft. Cobb have you ever thought about planting peanuts for summer plots?

A go to for me would be oats, peas, radish, winfred brassica, turnip, kale, and annual clovers (crimson and berseem).
