I listen to hunting podcasts more than anything else. However, the gym this morning had Coolio's Gangsta Paradise playing. I really listened to the words for the first time in years. Shocking how much truth about society is in that song and how unsurprising it should be that society has become more violent over that last 20 years.
I do like me some Luke combs, although he gets over played on the radio a little bit. I saw him a couple months back he was really good. LMAO, haven't heard that term yet. I'm going to steal it. I have some cousins who live in the country about an hour north of Detroit who are the weirdest mix of urban/hillbilly I've seen this side of Louisville.
If anyone is into alternative rock, I suggest Highly Suspects album "The Boy Who Died Wolf." One of my favorites in the last few years. I also listen to a lot of country and the top new artists have to be Luke Combs and Chris Stapleton. I saw Stapleton live last year and he is amazing.
Check out their cover of Snowin' on Raton. That lead vocal is a hoss, if that ain't country I'll kiss yer a$$..
I may need to get the whole album after that one. Ryan Bingham is another good one. Different kind of voice and great songs. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
I don't really listen to the radio anymore. Of the "bro country stuff" I like Jason Aldean's music a lot but I can't stand anything else really on the radio. I try to listen and I'm always shutting it off in five minutes wondering WTF (where and what) that sh*t came from. I swear it sounds like a doped up hippie was picked at random, given a guitar, pushed on stage and told to do whatever...it's just unbearable. I buy music and download to my phone and play it through the bluetooth in my truck and dozer or headphones if I'm on a tractor. My collection is a little eclectic. I have everything from Merle to Aldean in country to Celtic to Journey in other genres. I've really been enjoying Steve Perry era Journey lately though from the 70's 80's. With a lot of diversity I can always find something I'm in the mood for and I don't have to listen to crap ads on the radio.
And for all us on the Chris Stapleton wagon, check out his old band Steeldrivers. Son! I have yet to not like a single song by them. "Sticks that make thunder" gives me chills. Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Some times when I am on the road I will sit in my hotel room and get on the you tube and remember songs from my youth and listen. Leo Sayer Long Tall Glasses, songs like that.
Anything by Colter Wall, Tyler Childers, Whisky Myers and Turnpike Troubadors. Thats my evening scouting lineup
Kinda surprised nobody has mentioned Old Crow Medicine Show. Steeldrivers have a bunch of good ones! Buy that Reckless album, guitar, whiskey, guns and knifes...!
Well I had a rant about Darius Rucker, mentioned earlier, about him squeezing his way into country music on the backs of OCMS Wagon Wheel, but I let it go till you mentioned em. Lol. It's not your song Hootie! And yes, Reckless is amazing. Side note: I do like Darius. Just pissed me off at the time. Maybe still? Sent from my SM-G960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
He’s the only current country artist that I actually like. The songs on the radio are overplayed but he does some amazing covers and there are good songs on his album that no one knows about. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Probably going to get some heat for this but Taylor ray holbrook's "Times we had" really speaks to me. He has a bunch of good songs in my opinion but most are the more "modern" country type. Although I also love listening to saturday night country gold in the garage while working on projects.
I've been listening to an Everlast play list for a couple weeks..."What it's like" "Watch me shine" "Put your lights on" "White trash beautiful" to name few.
That's a guilty pleasure album right there. Randomly I saw him live once in a bar in Cincy back in like...maybe 2000? Something like that. Pretty cool mostly acoustic set.
