Those things are the spawn of hell. If you ever hunt West Ky, come prepared, we are infested with them.
I'll be holding down NC (for deer) and CO (for elk) public lands this year. Work has been a major time suck this year and the free time I do have has been working out our flinging a few arrows. Shooting well and practicing out to 70yds. I've had no time to scout or set cams in NC this year (other than some new areas I checked out during spring Turkey season) so I'll be relying on prior years encounters, experience and some hard work. I want to get out in the next week or two to clear some lanes and maybe hang a stand or two. CO will be interesting. I'm planning on 2 weeks and syncing up with a couple different folks met here. I think I've narrowed the hunting opportunities to the public land on the western half of the state...or so it seems. This seems like it will be an especially crazy year out west due to drought and fires, but maybe some luck or hardheadedness will help. Good luck y'all.
Oh man that sucks about the ticks! I pre-treated my scouting clothes with permethrin this morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
well, I was planning on Pennyrile; but then I read this... I still have scars on my legs and arms from gnats in southern GA; and that was 13 years ago. Bugs tear me up.
first time I've ever been called that. alls I know is that back before flea/tick preventative treatments for dogs; when my dog would get fleas they'd rather bite me than him.
Can't go wrong with Pennyrile. That's where I cut my teeth and learnt to bowhunt. I live about 15 minutes from there.
thanks; I'll probably still end up there in spite of the demon spawn chiggers. I camped down there a few times back in the day. Beautiful country.
Hunting Ohio Public land, This is my 4th year chasing the same buck on the one parcel I hunt, I had him at 20 yds last year and at full draw but didn’t have a shot. Looks like he put some more size on this year, not posting a pic of him until I’m behind him! Good luck fellas!!
I'm mostly s private land guy but there is a small game lands that gets little attention I just put a couple cameras on. Neighbors on the side I'm checking leaked a few nice buck pics at their feeder. I'm thinking they frequent the public ground. Kind of excited to check out new ground. Michigan public for me! Been cashing some studs the last few years. They seem to win more than i do???
If you make down, I'll drop by and visit with you. I've got a week of vacation planned for the second week of September and three weeks of daily vacation days to use before the end of the year.
I will be hunting public land for Elk in Alberta. I lost the private ground that I have had access to for the past several seasons. I am looking to really learn a piece of nearby public land that I have hunted a couple of times. I have seen deer but have not yet got one in bow range on public land. I have done a lot of online scouting and will hopefully do some more boots on the ground scouting soon.
Ever walk into a swarm of chiggers? I got it good one early October hunting near a lake. I unzipped the zipper of my pants by my knees to let them vent. Mistake. I must have gotten bit a thousand times. It was awful. I had to resort to using feminine anti itch cream to get the itch to even stop for a minute. My lower body looked like it was inflated with 2 lbs of water under my skin. Hell. Sent from my SM-G950U using Tapatalk
Just got word the state bought abput 52 acres across the street from my house! Unfortunatly they are planning on clearing more walking trails but word is it will be a year or so until they begin the work so should be good to hunt until then. Most of the DCR land by me is open to hunting but there are so many land trust walking trails and public bike paths idk why they want to clear out MORE land
I know I am a little late on this thread, but am a public land hunter only for last year and this year. I have learned alot over this last season and hoping to put it into use this year. I certainly get a different sort of thrill/adventure/pride in hunting on public land where you have to find the deer instead of finding ways to bring them to you.
Having access to land right by your house is the best, especially if you have access to some of the private land that Is nearby. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Will be hunting public land this year in Northern and Western Illinois. The spot in Northern Illinois will be for day trips and the spot in Western Illinois will be for when I can get away for a few nights. With a lenient work schedule, I'm hoping to be in Western Illinois a lot come late October and Early November. Headed down there next week to shoot some squirrels and scout. October 1 can't come soon enough.
