I planted some buckwheat in a mix I got for free from a local co op. I mainly planted it bc I didn’t want to waste it and I plan on broadcasting clover in it in the fall. What are the benefits as far as nutrients and dirt?

I’ve read it’s basically green manure.

Got my summer plots all finished up yesterday. All that’s left to do is let them grow and wait for the giant velvets.

Clover/Chicory here. Two years ago this spot was HOT and one of our guys was inches away from killing a 7 year old buck out of that tower blind.

This is a plot we call the “campground”. Problem is it has he worst soil ever, rocky clay, but the deer use the area HEAVILY. I didn’t hunt it last year but the game cameras were SMOKING hot on it. Last year it was a mixture, this year it’s going to be buckwheat followed by rape.

Out buckwheat in a couple other plots as well for summertime soil enhancement.

Are you bowhunting out of those blinds? Seems like close shots could be tough the way those blind windows are?

Yes, and it can be a little tricky, but is also perfect for concealment. All the blinds need replaced, they have been out for 3 years and are all torn up and filled with bees.

Used a king cutter ATV disc to tear up this plot. Was impressed. This is a first year plot in an AMAZING funnel.

That area between all the fields and the pines is a south draining valley for the fields. Had some good bucks showing up last year late season on the trails.

Also we killed a doe there. Pretty excited to have food in it this year with corn planted in all the fields.

Episode 5 for this year is up. Episode 6 won’t be done for awhile as this is our off season until the bucks start really putting on the velvet. I may film my smallmouth fishing trip next weekend to include.

    Hope you enjoy!

That’s the plan. It will be well documented on here. I got some video of the King Cutter in action and we will be planting it mid to late July.

Plot update. Established clover is doing well. New clover chicory is doing okay in one plot and bad in another. Buckwheat is a fail for the most part. One summer brassica plot is doing better than the other.

I planted a little late and didn’t test my soil...biting me in the ass. Next year I wont make that mistake.
