Here's something you don't see everyday on a trail camera. Photos to follow in next reply.

I had a pair move in after the Canada Geese hatched their eggs on the island on the pond. At first I thought their calling and noise making was kind cool even though it was as the sun was rising. The birds got comfortable and would hunt closer and closer to the house, fearing for the koi my wife kept an eye on them. Earlier this week they were too close and my wife let the dogs out to run them off. Now the dogs bark their heads off when they hear the sandhills.

The ribeye of the sky.. Last year was the first year I didn't go on my annual sandhill crane hunt, haven't been able to stop thinking about those tasty birds. Definitely not missing this year.

Was about to comment "ribeye of the sky" I've been fortunate to kill a couple in my time.

I've eaten a lot of different birds in my life but those Sandhill Cranes are by far the tastiest.

We can't hunt them here in Minnesota, I don't get it them being a migratory bird and all.

Yeah I never understood that. One of my cousins from St. Paul used to come down and hunt them with me. His dad, my great uncle, would damn near fight you over the grilled hearts and livers.

I've heard they are great eating. Protected out here though. They are on my bucket list of foods.

I've never seen one in person here but that's a cool capture on camera. I'm surprised I've never gotten to see any here with all the marshes and wetlands...weird.

That is a Heron not a Crane. They are called Great Blue Herons but I just call them blue herons because I refuse to believe that they are all great and if they were all great then they would be average.

I got a couple on cam the other day as well. Nice to see something different show up. Sandhill Cranes started showing up on our farm about 8 years ago. First time I heard them I was like what in the heck is that noise?!

Anyone able to identify this type of crane for me? Can’t seem to track them down with my cams.
