Is early June to late to plant clover in MN

We have river bottom land in MN that has been flooded until recently (5/20). It will take another couple weeks to dry out. In Feb/March we cleared a couple small food plot areas in the area that flooded. We would like to provide a clover food source in these areas but now we are wondering if its worth trying to plant in early June or should we wait until late July early August? Thoughts/Suggestions?

 

Looking at a few charts several say you are good in your region till about mid June, so I would do it soon if possible. You can also always overseed it in the fall if it gets thin. Good luck!!

I still have not seeded my clover one I wanted to wait till I saw how last years clover recovers, took the time to treat grass and weeds. Not time lost time it has been dry heck the lime I put down 2-1/2 weeks ago isn't even dissolved yet.

Last year I planted clover fairly late, and we were lucky enough to get plenty of rain. This year it's been July/August hot in May. It probably wouldn't have worked as well this year.
Weeds can become a problem if it stays hot and dry.

Going back to the lower 80's here got rain last night and today will be planting soon.

 

Planted Tuesday myself, gonna overseed and now my existing plots today since they have bloomed.

Very nice looking plot!! I had great luck this spring spraying our clover plot with 2-4d Low Vol 4. It took the broadleaf weeds right out of it. I wouldn't do it now, it's way too hot!!

 

I thought the same thing. That is real nice.

 

We have a small window this weekend so we are going for it. The 2 plots are smaller and located in clearings. We will be planting our clover using hand rakes and broadcast spreader since we can't get our equipment back into the area yet.
This area wasn't holding deer last year. We have hinge cut and created bedding areas close to the clearings. we are hoping to create an awareness/pattern of these locations with the clover during the summer and then adding a fall forage for Oct - Dec.
