I am looking to fletch some arrows of mine and wondering about the best tool for this (taking note that it is my first attempt at doing so). I am looking at the EX fletch, which looks rather simple. Any thoughts or other ideas?

Should say EZ fletch, not EX fletch

The best is probably the Last Chance Vane Master Pro.

Only you would recommend a $300 fletching jig to a guy who has never fletched arrows before.

The Arizona EZ Fletch is perfectly fine for 99% of people - myself included. Super easy to use and works great.

Never heard of this one before. I took a minute to look it up and I think I might like it better than my Bitzenburger jig.

If you're looking for simple the EZ Fletch is definitely the way to go. I own a couple Bitzenbergers and couldn't tell you the last time I used them. And while the Last Chance jig is definitely top of the line, it's overkill for most people.

Think you'd be hard pressed to find a better, longer lasting jig than the Bitz. I've been using one for 20 years without issue. I recently picked up one of those little goat tuff jigs in an attempt to get more helical on my blazers and while it does do the job, its messy and gets glue everywhere inside the jig. I'll keep it in my travel box for emergency repairs.

I bought a Bitz in 1985. Has done all I need since then.

Ez fletch is ok, the fins will get gummed up over time but it isn’t a deal breaker. Make sure you get the correct size for the length vanes you plan on using. The mini is good with blazer sized vanes but little else. The newest size jig is in the middle and will give you a bit of versatility. It’s not my favorite jig but it works.

I like the Bitz with some modifications and up grades the best as fare a adjustments and longevity. I have had the same one for over 20 years and it works as good as the day I bought it.

What modifications have you made to your Bitz? I am just curious, I might try some.

I use the Zenith upgrade with specific diameter recivers. I also modified the clams buy cutting them down, gets me more helical as the front unused portion no longer contacts the shaft.

Thanks, that is genius. I am a damn Naval Engineer and I never thought about cutting the clams down like that. Guess I need to find a new job... I am definitely going to try that. How many extra degrees of helical do you get?

In its self none. You can only get whats built into the clamp regardless of the length. Which is about 2 degress. Where you pick it up is with the shorter clamp you can add a degree to your off set with the jig adjustment. With the longer clamp the front of the clamp will come off the shaft in the front and causes a pivot point makes for poor vane contact and adhesion. By cutting the clamp to just infront of the second hinge it moves the pivot point back into the vane and you can get a bit more off set.
Not sure if your getting 3 degrees with a one degree off set but its close.

If you want more then that with a short vane a ez mini max or the new mid length version will get you the full 3 degrees.
