Bobwhite Quail...I caught the "keep it bow focused" part but I reject your reality and substitute my own. Quail because there's something special about watching a good dog work well on upland birds, in good habitat. I also don't get as much of a rush from a big buck as I get from a covey rise. Otherwise, whitetailed deer. Because it's the second best rush I've experienced in hunting. Archery because of the challenge.
Snowshoe rabbits as the weather makes no difference when you can go. I take my rabbit hound out with me and she loves it more than me. I generally get a few each time I head out and it keeps me in practice on my bow. The whitetail deer here is a 1 tag limit so usually 1 shot and your season is done
DIY spot and stalk archery elk. Only done one trip so far, but was successful and officially obsessed. Caveat- if I had my own land it would probably be archery whitetail because I'd obsessively try to manage my property.
I love bowhunting, I have so much left to experience so this list is ever changing. Done a few hunts that While I enjoyed and glad it did then I would probably not again. The ones listed below I can do over and over and never get tired of. Elk during the rut, nothing like calling in and arrowing a big bugling bull. Caribou, I love watching them move across the tundra. A 350 pound animal with 350 inches of antler ....what’s not to love. Mountain caribou live in the most beautiful country you can find, it’s a must do. Mule deer, from the high desert to Mountain basins in the early seasons to the eastern plains they are a great animal to bow hunt. Coues deer, always a fun hunt. Super challenging to put a stalk on. Moose, in the right spot they can be on the top of my list...calling them in and seeing them coming in from Long way off it amazing.
No question about it, I prefer to hunt unicorns with a crossgun over a bait pile on private land. If you got a problem with that, bite me. It makes me feel special.
This is on my serious to do list! We have feral hogs here in Michigan, Im just unsure of where exactly
hogs anywhere any time but seening as I am from Texas and have not hunted my new state of Tennessee will say Texas. You dont know a thrill till you have shot a large hog under 10 yards in heavy bush and not much of an escape rout
Watching flocks of green heads work into your setup of a perfect hide with perfectly placed decoys and flawless calling gets my blood boiling. Same with Canadian geese. Big free range whitetail deer give me just as big of a rush though and those I hunt with a bow so.... whitetail deer for lack of opportunity on other big game species. Elk is on my one day list.
